The Federal Reserve creates it.

The more things we do like those countries the more our economy will resemble theirs.

Dad's need it too! Let's just shut this motherf$%ker down. Higher taxes and more incentive not to work. We used to provide it. Too big of a burden on small businesses. Then after a few bitched about 8 weeks not being long enough...it was gone. You wanna take off with pay? It's called savings. You know who pays me when I'm off. Nobody!!! If ya don't like it here, get the f$%k out!!!

What about paid paternity leave? Men have kids too. Our what about gay couples that adopt? Why should women get special benefits?

Work for a company that builds it into their salary structure. Yea if I worked shift work that would suck. There is a direct correlation between the time a mother spends with a newborn and the child's learning capacity later in life. I'm all for maternity leave.

I'll pass. I own my own business and several others. Do like we did and plan for the decrease in income. Live within your means, and have a child when you can afford it. It worked for us.

This is tricky. Our economy isn't designed for people to wait until they can afford something to buy it, we are issued credit to buy things now and pay them off over time. In your scenario most couples would have to wait until they were in their 40's to have children. That's not exactly workable - biologically speaking.

True. Still can be done. We had our first at age 23, but we lived frugally. Of course I had worked and saved since I was 12. I was born to 16 yo parents and never had shite. I decided at a young age I would better myself and I did. I never recieved any government assistance, but I did go to college and med school on merit based scholarships. This is still America and it's still there to take if you want it. So, pardon me if I have little patience for the whiners.

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps they are not "whiners" as much as you are an extraordinary individual whereas they are basically just ordinary? And if you are an extraordinary individual, is it fair for you to judge other people using your example as criteria?

Does the fact that an extraordinary person can do it necessarily mean that an ordinary person can do it?

I have every reason to believe that is a flawed stat.

what does "other nations provide" from the graphic mean? is it like unemployment insurance in those countries that matches what they were paid before?

Family Medical Leave Act is up to 12 weeks and can be broken out between mother or father. Whether you get paid depends on whether or not you have vacation and personal leave saved up.

Anyone can do it. But, I will concede a earlier point you made about our credit based economy. Too many people have fallen into this trap of buy now and pay later. When you do this, it makes it harder and harder to dig out. Luckly, I never fell for this. It also elevates the cost of living because of an increased demand for products. Unfortunately, we can't allow a deflationary correction to more affordable costs of living due to the implications on the economy and national debt. More benefits are not the fix though. Although I agree with the need for a mother to be home with a newborn, we have backed ourselves into a corner that will be difficult to get out of.

It probably varies. In some places the taxpayers cover it, sometimes the employer is forced to pay. Here some of us would like the free market to work and that is why the US is labeled with a zero.

If you want paid maternity leave find a quality employer that offers it.

And there is the correct answer.
