Chase Sapphire - Annual Fee......
Posted on 1/31/13 at 12:58 pm

Was at Chase during lunch and switched one of my cards to the Sapphire-Preferred. I asked about the annual fee being waved if you spend over 10K and they said no......I know others on here have said the opposite. Oh well, first year is free, if it doesn't make sense it what I get back next year I'll just cancel and go back to Freedom.

Does it give you 0% interest for a certain period after opening?

Not sure.......I don't carry a balance so I didn't ask (or pay attention) about the interest rates.

I'm looking to do some minor home improvement projects soon and was thinking about opening a credit card with both great travel rewards and a 0% introductory rate for 12-15 months so I can have an interest-free loan while I pay if off.

From what I've seen, I rarely see a "good" travel card offer that kind of 0% interest deal like you see some other cards do. I'd love to jump on one of those deals if they did.

When I do home improvement, I use my discover and shop online for in store pickup. Always 5%, sometimes 10% at lowes and Home Depot. You just have to link through their site. Plus all your equipment is waiting for you at the service desk when you get there.

I've had different people at Chase tell me different things, I plan on calling in about a month before my 1st year is up after I have about 20k on mine and pestering people until someone waives it.

Does it have to be travel rewards? I just got the discover cash back, they give you $100 and 14 months 0%.

Yes......if you spend 3K the first 3 months, you get $500 I believe.

The Chase card gives you a 40,000 point bonus which equates to $400 cash, or if you use those points for travel you get a 25% bonus making it worth $500

I just applied and was approved for this card.

I'll probably cancel after the first year.

Definitely use the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall if buying stuff at Lowe's and other stores they have. In-store pickup at Lowe's and you get 6 pts/$. All of the stores in the Rewards Mall give bonus pts/$. It's awesome.
I bought a Dewalt Miter Saw around Christmas for $215 and got 1200 pts for it. My girlfriend buys her makeup online at Sephora (when they have free shipping deals) and gets 9 pts/$. Just an extra way to squeeze more points out and increase your annual dividend.

What's the catch? I bet the store marks up the price, right?

I need to look into this on my capital one card. I will put around 25k on that a year during a normal year.
Having a hard time seeing that verified on Google though if anyone can link me.

It's the exact same store. You just go through Chase to access it. I haven't found a difference yet. They do give you some restrictions (can't use external promo codes usually) but that's it.

Tell them you will cancel. If you spend enough money they will waive it, trust me.
