If we were to start paying them back, how do we do it? With cash or gold?
Sorry for the stupid question, but just wondering how it actually works.

They own Treasury Notes, Bonds, Bills.
They get paid back like any other holder.....from additional borrowed funds

You just pay them back like we do now (and every other debt holder). As the treasury notes mature you pay them back.

I believe that the biggest chunk of debt is intra-governmental.
