Boat Questions

Does anyone know how much it cost to get a new gel coat on a boat? boat is 26 feet

Also, if there is a soft spot in the fiberglass - how hard is it to get that fixed ($ range)?

Thanks

This could be bad/labor intensive

re: Boat Questions

The boat is older '97, still has gel coat - just want to make sure the boat last. I think it would be more than $25 a foot. I would imagine it would be a few thousand. Just wondering if anyone has done it.

The soft spot is around the console - where everyone stands - its kinda a general area - I assume the wood under the fiberglass has weakend a bit over time. Just wondering if I have to replace it how much would it cost.

If I remember correctly, a buddy recently had a new gel coat put on his 18.5' boat and it cost him roughly $350.
It was a far lower than expected price...

Could be a lot of different things...all of which could be fairly expensive.
Remove the flooring, replace the support beams/stringers...maybe more.
Depending on the age of the boat...I wouldn't be surprised if the repairs cost more than the value of the boat.

I always worry about soft spots because it usually means there is some type of rot/break in the structural support of the boat.

However, I'm by no means an expert (especially w/o seeing the problem areas) and it is certainly worth getting a few professional quotes.

Best of luck
