I haven't used the bookmark function in ages because my list of bookmarks quickly hit the limit.
Is there any chance we could get the # of allowable bookmarks for a poster bumped up? Perhaps multiplied by 10 or so?

there is no sense slowing down the site so you can bookmark every thread where you think you made a whitty comment that maybe someone might kinda enjoy at some point down the road.

No, but if I scan the board and see a thread that I would like to read later, I would like that option. The Arkansas cabin rental thread on the OT is a good example of this

Second, it is not wit that I am concerned with bookmarking, but threads that have detailed discussions (see, for example, the famous Stephan Kinsella IP thread) or other information and data within them, especially those with lists, tables, charts, graphs, etc.
Third, I seriously doubt that simple links will slow down the whole site. We're not talking about animated gif's here, bro, just links.

Storage space? Come on, man! 
It probably takes more storage space to store an individual post within a thread than it does to create a bookmark link to an already existing thread.
