I'm no fan of Ogump, but this is much ado about nothing. Teddy Roosevelt was a man's man, and he forced football to make changes in the name of player safety.

Kurt Warner said the same thing. What a pussy. Real men laugh in the face of brain trauma.

There have been quite a few posts like this on the OT. With all the information coming out, it's not being a wimp to consider this. Broken bones or a knee injury is one thing. Long term cognitive disability is another. And some of the research indicates the younger the person is, the more vulnerable they are to it.

Do you realize that presidents have been doing this since 1906? Teddy Roosevelt questioned the safety of football, and that resulted in the introduction of helmets and a regulatory body that would become known as the NCAA. In other words, concerns about the safety of football are not new, but rather renewed. We are turning into wimps? That is an ahistorical narrative.

Also, college football better respond to this growing chorus of concern (like the NFL has been forced to do) or the game will be outlawed. Football will be made safer and safer. You can count on that. In 100 years, the game will be as unrecognizable as it was 100 years ago.

You could say that about anything, and the statement would be true. We have little to no idea what the future holds.

Have you ever played the game at an organized level?

Right, but people are basically afraid of change, even though that is essentially an irrational fear. For example, there was a lot of resistance to the introduction of the helmet as required gear (not mandatory until 1939 in college football). Hell, some NFL players played without one until 1940 (ala the NHL - what a bunch of dumbshits). Now, the helmet is an accepted part of football. Nobody would even think of playing the game without one.

If they would lose the helmet the game would be much safer.
