I'm was just about to purchase a MinnKota transom mount trolling motor for my boat when I noticed a warning that the motor was not recommended for use in salt water. More than half the fishing I do is in the coastal marsh. The saltwater motors are about a $100 more expensive. Anyone run a "common man's" trolling motor in the marsh? Is it worth the extra jack to get the white one?

Yes. But why a transom mount? are you putting around in a bateau or god forbid, a kayak? get a bow mount if you have a gas engine.

I've used one for around 5 years, no real problems yet. It came with the boat so. 100$ doesn't seem bad at all for the extra protection though. Hate the white color.

Not much difference in models. Just some added corrosion protection, but worth it. Should be able to find one for less than $100 difference though.

My little 15" center console is 12 years old, sees regular use and all I fish is brackish/salt marsh. The trolling motor is a freshwater MinnKota and the black motor housing is just starting to show a bit of surface corrosion. The stainless downtube is perfect and the thing keeps running every time I use it.

When I upgrade to a larger boat I will probably end up with the white saltwater version because most bay boats have those now.
