The Brooklyn Nets are preparing to make another run at Dwight Howard, according to a source.

Playing in Brooklyn with Deron Williams and Joe Johnson was at the top of Howard’s list last summer and the Nets are convinced that he still has a strong desire to make the Barclays Center his home office. The Nets have played well under P.J. Carlesimo and feel like the addition of Howard could be the piece that gets them to the NBA Finals.

Nets general manager Billy King has closely monitored the struggling Lakers and quietly searched for a third team with an attractive piece that would help facilitate a trade that would deliver Howard to the Nets, according to sources.

The Lakers need to start getting Dwight more involved with the offense, or he'll leave on his own in the offseason and the team will be super fricked.

B Lopez is a 24-year old center who is locked up under contract for the next few years, averaging 18.4, 7.5 and 2.0 bpg on 52% shooting with 74% from the line.

That's very attractive.

Could the Hawks have interest? Smith to LA, Howard to Brooklyn, Lopez to Atlanta?

Allows for Horford to move to PF...

Lopez should be an attractive piece for many teams...

Isn't Smith a FA after this year? The Lakers would be in the same situation they're in now. I do like the move in theory though, it would allow for Pau to move back to the post where I think he's better

This is atually a smart move. Get you two young guys for Howard and hold onto Pau for next season. Pau is set to make $19 mil next year and one King James will be set to go in 2014 making about $20 mil. They would have to get rid of Pau's $19 before they can take on LB's $20. If they move Pau instead of Howard they would shut themselves out of the LB hunt in 2014.

Aren't the Nets disallowed from trading Lopez because they just signed him to a new deal this year?

interesting, but I think the Hawks are more apt to try and lure Dwight back home to team him up with Josh. and the bigger issue is they probably don't like Lopez's contract. hell, I know I don't.

Smith is a FA. But the Lakers are in the luxury tax. So trading away Howard for Smith saves them money for this year, since they aren't making the playoffs. Then they have to ask themselves, what is the chances of signing Howard long-term?

Moves Gasol back to the post, as you said. And it brings in a Defensive presence in Smith who can also do many things to help a team out.

I'd be fine with both Howard and the Lakers sticking together and dying on the vine

please, please, please let that happen

Pretty sure because the Nets didnt match an offer-sheet for Lopez - they just re-signed him - that there are no trade restrictions on his contract. I think...

Keep them together. Betting against the Lakers has been money this year

Hard to find many 18 and 8 24-year-old centers who block 2 shots a game to go along with good percentages from the floor and line.

Hollinger always would rave about what Horford could do if he actually played his "natural" position, power forward. This would allow the Hawks to move Horford to the 4.

I'm just speculating, though.
