Not really seeing as San Francisco is the best team in the NFC. I know that lead wouldn't last for long and I'm sure most people didn't as well. I was surprised that the Falcons started out that hot but I knew once it got close the didn't have a chance.

It's what San Francisco does, I mean it really wasn't that surprising. Once their D started to tighten up and they got to play their game it was pretty one sided.

This isn't CFB. With parity scheduling and the NFL draft, any team can go from worst to first

Well duh. They just hosted the NFCCG and went out to a 17-0 lead.

I'm saying that this was the Falcon's perfect storm. Yet they still couldn't get it done.

You can hate on Matt Ryan just because he is a Falcon, or any other player, coach or water boy that wears Falcons colors for that fact. But, you hate on them because you know they are a threat, and we will be a threat for a while. Saints fans don't run rampant with shite talk in regards to the Bucs or Panthers, because for the most part, they are irrelevant when it comes to chasing us for the division. You can deny it, but it's the truth.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I just think Saints ceiling is a bit higher than falcons ceiling. With that being said, I think Falcons under Smith are very good at playing very near their ceiling or at it.

I wouldn't disagree with this. With Smith/Ryan, you can pretty much guarantee you are going to get at least a B grade in any game. The problem is the A games have been few and far between with them. They really need to have a good draft, and for Tony to come back.

The Saints obviously need their defense to get it's shite together and for Brees to continue doing his thing.

Until the Falcons can get a formidable defense to compliment the offense, I will have to agree with you. What Payton and Brees are able to do together as a tandem is impressive.

You could clearly see the sort of impact Payton had on the Saints offense. They still had their moments of greatness this year, but they weren't near as good without Payton.

Falcons need a pass rush and a running game. They get that and they will be a very though team to beat. Their secondary is sick, need to resign Moore though. They have above average backers. Their running game is why they blew those leads in the playoffs IMO. You pass to score and run to win. Plain and simple they couldn't get it done.

Not really

Holy hell. So the Falcons are the #1 seed, playing at home with an inexplicably loud and raucous crowd, with a 17-0 lead against a second year guy who had started 9 games and they shite it away, yet it's no big deal

I agree that the Falcons are a good team, anyone denying that is Leo from What's Eating Gilbert Grape level retard, The Saints and Falcons are in my opinion the 2 teams that will fight for the NFC South crown for the next few years. They are still just a lot better than the other 2 teams in the divison.

I think the Falcons are contenders, but I still wouldn't bet money on them in the playoffs. The fact that they won a playoff game this season will do 1 of 2 things; It will either give them confidence going forward, or it will mess with their psyche even more because of blowing a 17 point lead in the NFC championship. I still believe they will be a playoff team next season FWIW. Gonzalez, if gone for sure, will certainly hurt the team some though.

The trash talk between both teams has really heated up, more so than ever over the past few seasons, because they are both now relevant, top teams in the NFC. It might not be regarded as the best rivalry in the league, and I think that is just due to the Saints getting the best of the Falcons in the respective Smith/Ryan, Payton/Brees eras, which both transformed joke franchises into relevant, good teams. However, I can't think of two fan-bases that hate each mother as much as these two, reminds me of college ball when they play. The games between these two teams next season will be bigger than ever, especially the primetime slot they will get.

I'm more than glad that Coach Payton is back, and I expect the team to come out with a vengeance. I also expect defensive needs to be met, and cap management to be handled, Loomis is a wizard. Next season can't come soon enough.

Bucs and Panthers are actually a much tougher out than the Falcons. They just don't talk as much meaningless shite as Falcon's fans.

that the Saints are loaded with contracts on the offensive side and still need a lineman to keep Brees upright.

well our 3 interior lineman are under contract and we've never had good tackles.

Our defensive contracts are much more damaging than the offensive ones. We're going to shed ellis and smith's contracts, probably Vilma's, and possibly Harper's. We might shed Bunkley's too. Our D is very well payed. You constantly talk about saints salary cap situation without having any idea what you are talking about

First, they had a huge lead so saying you were confident AFTER San Fran came back is laughable. Second, Atlanta had the ball inside the 15 with under 2 minutes to go with a chance to take the lead

However, since 2008 (Mike Smith's first year in Atlanta) Atlanta has had the best record in the NFC South.

Atlanta Falcons Since 2008 - 56-24
New Orleans Saints Since 2008 - 52-27

Saints - 4 playoff wins
Falcons - 1 playoff win

More importantly, the Saints have actually won something.
