Question About Medicaid/Jinal (Posted on 1/18/13 at 1:01 pm)
My wife works as an inpatient PT in a hospital treating mostly Medicaid patients. She just told me that on Feb 1st, there is a new law stating that Medicaid patients won't be granted therapy and she's worrying about losing her job. Can anyone provide any details on this?

Not sure how it works there but Medicaid pays a hospital a per diem. Based on your per diem, your hospital is given X number of dollars for an M'Caid patient day. They probably don't care how you use up that money. It is in the hospital's best interest to the get the patient out as soon as possible. If that includes PT, I would assume they would use it.
ETA - just saw where our state switched to more of a DRG style payment system as opposed to the per diem. Still though, it is incumbent upon the hospital to get the patient discharged as soon as feasible.
