| The time for action is now (Posted on 1/18/13 at 10:00 am)
The lack of regulation on knives and cutting instruments is appaling. In 2011, 1,694 victims were brutally murdered by knives or cutting instruments. Many of these knives were military style tactical knives. With all of this talk about firearms, very little has been said about knives. Right now any felon, including those who have been convicted of violent crimes, can just walk right into Academy or Walmart and purchase a tactical knife without as much as a background check. Hunters and cooks do not need a blade of more than 3 inches. Great Britain has the right idea as they are currently taking measures to stop this senseless violence. There is no need for a blade of more than 3 inches. Also, it is still possible to buy a sword. We do not need these on our streets. Swords have been used in cases of mass murder for thousands of years. It must stop now. Another alarming trend shows that owning a knife means that you are much more likely to suffer a cut. Our mentally ill have ready access to knives and may do horrendous things on a whim to either other people or themselves. If we can just save one life, it is worth it. We need to look at all actions that we could possibly take. We should stop manufacturing and sale of knives with blades of more than 3 inches, institute strong background checks with the FBI for knife purchases. Please call your local congressman or congresswoman today and tell them you support taking the deadly weapons off our streets to keep our kids safe.

Agreed, these knives are very dangerous. The question is, what group of kids can we use to get these restrictions passed?

Ban straight razors. There's no purpose for such a tool in modern civilized society. We have safety razors now. It's time people got with the times instead of holding onto these relics of the past.

That is a cutting instrument and should be subject to higher regulation.
