I need help with xbox live and hughs net (Posted on 1/17/13 at 8:23 pm)
I am thinking about ordering this for my camp so my son can play his xbox live with his friends. Does it work as good as dsl? the salesman said it was 10 megs. I do not know anything about satelite internet. please help

Upload and download doesn't matter as much as ping does and all satellite internet providers have horrible ping due to the length the signal has to travel. You can't even use a VOIP on satellite much less play games on it. Especially if he plays FPS games.

You would be better if you have a 4g signal at the camp and get one of those wireless routers from a cell phone carrier.
Only problem is that it has like a 5Gb limit every month so no streaming movies or anything but he could play games on it probably. Plus you can get them pre paid so you only need to have it for the months you would be out there.

My parents live out in the middle of nowhere on a lake in Florida, and they have hughesnet. It is absolutely the worst Internet I've ever encountered.
But I did launch call of duty black ops while I was there, just to look at the dedicated servers' ping. Lowest ping was about 1100. Yep, a ping of over a second.
