BVG back to UGA if Grantham goes?

3-4 years ago I would have begged for BVG to replace Martinez. Not feeling it this time around

How is that at all relevant to 2013? Oh, and where were you this year?

Claiborne, Honey badger, and the other slew of LSU players who bolted to the draft are not coming to save you this time around my friend.

@RapSheet: On Kirby Smart-to-Eagles: They are interested in him & other college DCs. They doubt he would leave Bama. Nothing has happened at this point

Don't NFL DCs get paid less than what Kirby is already making at Alabama?

Yes. I think the league average for a DC is like $900,000. Kirby Smart gets paid $1.5 million as the DC at Alabama.

Good thing we have a whole new group of badasses coming up.

But regardless we proved in 2009 that even in a down year for us we can go into Athens and win, ugaly is the least of my concerns.

Like Kirby said in an interview before the '12 BCSNC game, "I've got the best non-head coaching job in college football" - Kirby's got it good at Bama and he knows it.

Me neither, 34 of 44 on our 2 deep are back with an outstanding recruiting class coming in, should be another solid season

Smart would be stupid not to give the NFL a try.

Maybe. But it is also widely known that Saban's relationship with Kirby Smart is unlike any we have seen before with him and one of his assistants. The two men are the best of friends, both men approach football with the same philosophy, and both men have similar personalities. Smart has been regarded as the best defensive coordinator in college football since 2009 and yet has yet to leave Alabama for another job. I'm not saying he won't leave for the Eagles, but the fact that he stays says something about his relationship with Coach Saban.

I think the only reason he would have to leave would be 1) to prove to the football world that he can do it on his own and it's not just all Saban and 2) for future recruiting purposes.

Both are legit reasons too. If he succeeds in the NFL, he could have any college job he wanted.

I normally don't slam Gumps for their gump logic-but this right is asinine. Muschamp stuck with Nick for a long time too. If you think they are the "best of friends" you don't understand the boss/employee relationship.

In all honesty, Nick will probably tell Smart to go. The guy has his own career path to carve. It the only way Smart will grow other than a Head Coach position.
