Jaegr is on a tear for the Stars. He's scored 2 tonight... 4 in the last 3 games.

Stars don't play "pretty" hockey... but it looks like they're finally settling in and gelling. They've got a bunch of new guys and guys that were injured for most of last year.

I thought through the first 2 periods it would end up just being another physical beat down handed to us. This Stars team has certainly surprised me at least this season.

Kari covers up a lot of holes. He's been amazing. But I like what the Stars are doing by rolling out a bunch of young blueliners. Sure, they'll make mistakes, but you have to see what you got. You don't get experienced by sitting on the bench.

Unrelated, know who's having a surprisingly awesome year that's totally under the radar? Eric Staal. He's first in the league in points at even strength.

Is that supposed to be Jagr? As in Jaromir Jagr? Holy cow! That guy's still playing? He's gotta be up there with Teemu.

In other news, Ducks just inked Getzlaf for 8 years. 66 mil.

ETA: Also, Perry has yet to resign. If he doesn't sign before April, you can bet the Ducks will be trading him. I would be pissed, but I know the Ducks aren't the most financially blessed teams in the league. I would just hate to break up Getzlaf, Ryan, Teemu, and Perry. Such a strong lineup right now.

Would love the Pens to get Perry to go alongside Crosby.

That rumor popped up late last year as well.

I'm pretty sure the Pens would have to trade Malkin or something of that value to get Perry. Perry aint gonna be cheap.

Perry's gonna sign for the maximum, or close to it. I'd be shocked if he stays in Anaheim. Which kind of sucks, you'd like to see the Ducks hold it together. I think they might go into all-in mode this year, playing firewagon Boudreau hockey. They are one of the most entertaining teams in the league right now.

I don't see how the Pens could add him except as a deadline expiring deal, and why would the Ducks do that? The Pens only have $10 mil in cap space next season, and that's only with 16 players signed. A lot of money comes off two years from now, but that's also when Malkin, Kunitz, Orpik, Letang, and Niskanen will all be unrestricted free agents.

Well, we can't believe you're serious either. The only real way they can add a $7-8 million a year player like Perry is to get rid of Malkin.

For a 2 month rental?

Good god no, could easily get him if they deal him.

Long term? Don't want him for that, Crosby only needs a Kunitz type of player to dominate, adding a superstar would just be unfair to the league.

In terms of a rental and having prospects to give up that would get Perry? Easily.

Right, I was just laughing that if you were serious about trading Malkin for a 2 month rental.

Rentals usually come pretty cheap in terms of prospects and a draft pick, not a superstar.

But why would the Ducks get rid of him for a two month rental? Check the standings. The Ducks are far more likely to go all-in for a Stanley Cup drive. Outside of Chicago, the Ducks have the best record in hockey. They aren't gonna sell one of their best players for pennies on the dollar because they can't resign him. If anything, they'll add another guy whose about to be a free agent and just damn the torpedoes. It makes no sense to trade Perry to the Pens from the Ducks' perspective.

So, the Ducks are unlikely to trade him this year and the Pens really can't sign him long term. So his chances of landing in Pittsburgh are slim to none. I mean, I guess another franchise could pull a Dallas Stars and just give the Pens their best player for next to nothing, but most competently run teams don't do that.

IF they choose to do that, then yes, he will stay.

However anyone close to the situation is aware that Perry will not resign if he stays and hits free agency, Justin Schultz 2.0 for Anaheim.

So do you risk keeping him and pray for a Stanley Cup win then lose him? Or trade a get some top prospects in return and a draft pick in a loaded draft year?

Tough call.

Doesn't really have anything to do with a rental player like the Pens did with Hossa.

Sounds like the Pens are going to get Alfredsson anyways but there is a lot of talk about Perry going around again so we'll see.

Check out the Ducks cap geek page. Teemu and Saku come off the books at the year's end, freeing up $8.2 million per season. They have $19 million in cap space. If they want to sign Perry, I think they can.

With Teemu likely finishing up his Hall of Fame career, there is no better time to go all-in for a Cup run. Vancouver is struggling, the Red Wings are collapsing, and there's just a bunch of mediocre teams out there other than the Blackhawks. Of course you go for the Cup. The window's open, go for it.

And if you trade with the Pens, what are you gonan get? The Pens' top prospects are all defensemen (hockey future ranks 4 of the Pens top 5 has D-men). You're gonna trade Corey f'n Perry for two AHL blueliners and a late 1st round pick? Oh, while also telling your fanbase that you're not trying to win.

I think the Pens trading for Perry is delusional. It doesn't work from the Ducks' perspective at all.
