Do people actually think that the newly legalized Hispanics as well as the Hispanics in this country who were already citizens will then "come to their senses" and begin to vote for Republicans and conservatives?
I sure as hell don't think so. Not only will all the credit for the amnesty go to the democrats, they will use that to remind Hispanics at every turn that "We gave you full citizenship!". I still think that Hispanics will vote 75% in favor of democrats, and the democrats will then find another divide and pander wedge issue to use to try and get the other 25%. Millions and millions of new democrat voters.
This is why Republicans should not agree to any amnesty measures, unless they want democrats to have single party rule for the next 30 years at least.

I think the GOP should embrace the most hardline . . I'm sorry . . ."principled" . . . positions stated on this site on every issue. That will ensure the eventual demise and irrelevance of the current GOP and, hopefully, be the genesis of a new "conservative" party that is not motivated by jingoism, prejudice, atavism and the lowest common denominator.

Let's look at history and use that as a guide. Did it work out that way for republicans in the '80's?

I think its funny how you leftists say that conservatism and wanting our country to live within its means are "extreme", but never apply the same standards to far left democrats.
Howcome their extreme fringes are OK, but anyone to the right of John McCain is considered a bad thing for this country?

W got like 40 percent of hispanics, so the GOP can potentially do okay with them. Maybe not a majority, but they can keep it respectable.

Well I read your initial response a an over the top attempt at sarcasm. If I was right, then you are hammering the GOP for not wanting to just allow a bunch of people who pushed their way into this country to get magic legal status.
See, illegals are nothing more than line cutters. They are selfish, greedy, law breakers who don't have the common courtesy to follow some rules and enter America legally.
So, do you support line cutters?

I think your categorizing of all "illegals" as the same is unwarranted, not based upon facts and, quite likely, is nothing more than the discredited "nativism" of the 19th Century.
