I thought you could sign up to xbox live gold without giving your credit card info.

I believe to set it up you have to enter a card number, but you can call the 1-800 number to take the card number off your account.

You don't need a cc. I started an account about a month ago with a free 2 day pass. I signed up for silver, which doesn't give you the gold perks, and then entered the gold code once my profile was created. Try that

Once you have the account established, then you can remove them. I'm doing renewal cards from now on.

Whenever I last used my prepaid code, I didn't have to enter any CC info.
