What is your business?
Can you file a claim if you are in sales but do everything under the company name?I definitely had a drop in income for quite a few months but never thought about filing because I figured Id have to be independent. Thoughts?

If you made less money after the spill than you did the year before, and can argue that it was a factor, I think you have a case.
That's not entirely accurate but it's close. The bottom line is ANY La. business owner is a potential class member. You don't need to even prove a loss was spill related, one must merely meet a monetary threshold to qualify based on gross revenues. If you own a business, you should 100% submit a claim. There's literally nothing to lose.

From what I've heard, the people that really got screwed were ones that were making cash, and can't show all their previous revenue on their taxes, but maybe this is just karma catching up to them.
Screwed or not you have to substantiate a loss claim. That requires monthly P&Ls and/or monthly sales and use returns. Cash business is a choice many make for better or worse. In this case you're left out.

Bumping this. The thread, unfortunately , has good bit of misinformation. But, this program will inject billions of revenue into the economy of the Deep South...that's a good thing. And, I stick to my prediction that BP will end up suing it's experts that researched the program it drafted and implemented.
If your business hasn't explored the opportunity for a claim, it should.

That's a good sum...and peanuts compared to payments that will be made in the agribusiness sector.

I heard of a car dealer in N. Alabama getting $1.2M.
