What's the OBs thoughts on the pros and cons of bolting down my trolling motor foot control inside the recess pan on my front deck.

cable or electric motor driven?

I would just mount a piece of plywood with carpet to the bottom. that way you can move it around.

Cable running from control pedal into the head. I had thought about carpet or nonskid mat inside the recessed tray. I would like mobility but I also want the pedal stable when I'm using the trolling motor.

If your talking bass boat, there are no cons to it IMO. It keeps it from flopping around on the front deck while running in rough water. Forces you to stand and fish closer to the nose of the boat which helps casting and makes your boat fish bigger than what it is. Bolted down gives you a stable platform so that you can distribute your weight to both feet while fish and not worry about it shifting, tilting, or sliding out from under you. Most important because it helps not fatigue your legs and back.

Best invention on a bass fishing platform and will never buy a boat without it again.

I have the recess just not sure if I should fasten the pedal down inside the tray or just use gravity

ETA: I've been fishing out of a Center console with a hand control. Just got a bass boat recently

The point of it being recessed is so you can stand on the petal without you weight shifting to one leg. Put it in the tray, lower your trolling motor and try to operate it while evenly distributing your weight. If the petal moves or shifts, screw it down. If you feel comfertable that it won't move while operating leave it as is just make sure you are not shifting your weight to one foot while working it because you are defeating the purpose

Welcome to the club

I think I am on my 4th bass boat. I just can't get into saltwater fishing. I'm not salt life enough

I used to think a center console was the ultimate do everything boat but I realized that it catches too much wind when trolling to make a great bass boat.

There is no reason not to fasten it down. No room to move it around in the recessed tray so where it sits it will stay. Screw that sucker down.
