My older bro is looking for a good home defense shotgun under $350. I'm familiar with hunting shotguns and not home defense.
Which is better, pump action or semi auto?

Thanks

with that price range, you'd be limited to a pump

Remington 870, from a pawn shop is your best option and a good one at that

Remington 870 or mossbergs 500. Only two correct answers.

Get on gunbroker.com and start bidding on Remington 870's. You may get a deal on a used one.

I would look at the pawn shops and see if I could find a old, used, 870 Wingmaster

Just make him aware that in the event that he needs to use it he should rack it a couple of times so the bad guys know he has it.

Have been very pleased with my H&R home defense shotgun.

Pretty much the 870 design I actually find it to be more solid feeling then my 870.

And the price was 199.00 at Academy

My dad actually made this comment to me the other day when discussing if he should leave his shotgun loaded or not (one in the chamber). He said "I'll just rack it and scare the hell out of them". I told him thats a good way to give away your defensive position and become a target. He now keeps one in the chamber.
