That I don't know ... I run in Brooks Glycerine which I love but are in no way minimal. I tried some Newton's on and oh my they were awkward. That said there was a 60 return policy. Maybe I'll try them .. one day.

35 I've got a love/hate relationship with "that thing" the roller. Seriously the lunges got it right where it hurts ...

Today when I got to 10 (10.25 actually) and turned around for the very short walk to my car, my whole body went "let's get tight on her" and I almost couldn't walk.

Gotta stretch this all out ... and a hot bath never hurt.

Thanks.

How are you liking the Glycerines? I have a pair of Ghosts that I'm wanting to replace, they feel too "cusiony".

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Glycerine 9 .. in fact the 10s caused shin splints SO I bought 2 extra pair of 9s and stashed them in my closet. I think though that they're pretty cushiony ... I tried another Brooks on -- it may have been the Ghost -- but whatever it was there was little to no cushion!!

Don't go for the hot bath right after you run, allow yourself to cool down before so. Heating the muscles will increase inflammation and slow down the recovery process.
Congrats on the 10 miles. I got back to running about 9-10 months ago and will run my first half in two weeks. I will also run my first marathon in April. Keep up the good work and good luck.

You're running the LA half??? I wanted to run the 5k but husband is having surgery on the Thursday before .. next year.

The only real thing that I'm afraid of is if it rains ... that is one thing that I haven't done ... and reallllllllly don't want to!

Thanks for the help!!! I'm kinda pumped!

re: My running friends, I got my 10 miles +!!

yes, I'm a girl ...

And regarding the it band, had knee "issues" for years like 15+ years and had NOT been any type of athlete. Then I started with BAD BAD BAD pain in my hip about a year ago. Went to the chiropractor after much misery and thinking about what to do.

The hip was bursitis and the knee pain (comes and goes at random) was it band. He did ART and I swear I'm good regarding those injuries. Roll, roll, roll, stretch, stretch, stretch.

His doing his thing hurt to the point that I would almost cry but I'm good!!!

(And what sex machine??? I'm about to join a gym .. need somewhere to run if it's raining .. not much time left before 2/24!)

The majority of running injuries can be treated with ice and rest. Bottom line is listen to your body. If its telling you that it needs rest then take the day off, regardless of what your training plan says. Other than that just stretch and don't over do it and you should stay injury free.

I do about 70 miles/week and I can't remember my last injury.

Foam roller is great for the IT band. At least that's what runners world says. I've been recovering from a groin injury that I think may even be a sports hernia. Good luck to everyone in training! Chesty, did you end up running the br beach?

re: My running friends, I got my 10 miles +!!

it's the abduction, adduction machine. the sitting thigh-squeeze machine is how most know it. i was just trying to be helpful with describing it using my the best o-t definition.

if it is your adductor muscle group, building up the muscle can help make it stronger, and less likely to strain.

as far as it band, my pt never had me use the roller foam. i do it regularly anyway, but he didn't suggest it, though. i stretch for about an hour each day, btw.

ETA: as far as stretching for that muscle group, i do:
-sitting hamstring
-squatting and rocking back and forth
-frog stretch [position how it sounds--knees on ground, arse in air, trying spreading and hold for a 10 count]

Maniac, you're experienced ... I'm not.

What would your next 6 long runs be? I've got 6 weekends before race day!

That's the biggest differential I've ever heard of.

I only run outside 4-5 times a year and I never notice that kind of drop. I'm slow anyway, though.

They are not, I do a mile on treadmill in about 8 minutes but around 10/11 outdoor running I can also run full 3 miles on treadmill but only 2 outdoors. It is odd I know so I started doing treadmill running with a 2/3 incline

Need to remember that ... I dislike treadmills but it beats nothing when it's raining ... last week was nasty and I did nothing between LAST Sunday and today.
