Will a 3-5 loss rebuilding type season be acceptable in 2013?

With the loss of personnel on D growing and the rise of power in the SEC West, it is getting more and more unlikely we can contend for any championships next season.

I am ok with this if improvement is obvious as the season progresses.

I just want to see improvement. LSU, as of late, always has talent. We get the best recruits in state for what is needed. Everyone here is acting like we have nothing but recruiting classes made up of players from the Waterboy.

In reality, every year could potentially be a 3-5 loss season ... all it takes is a few injuries and/or bad breaks. On the other hand, next year can also be an undefeated season.

That's why they play the games. Otherwise, we would just anoint Bama NC every year.

Why would that happen? LSU is stacked for next year and should make a good run for the BCSNCG.

I'm not. We should reload on defense if the recruiting is anywhere near as good as advertised. We lost some really good talent but the new guys in town are serious ballers. They'll take time to gel and grow and I'd expect the growing pains to cost LSU a game, but the talent is just too good not to reload.

The offense is another matter. There must be improvement this year. Ware and Dworaczyk are the only guys that got significant PT this year that aren't returning. The O-line got embarrassed against Clemson, but they had a strong year, and they've got another offseason to get better. The passing game needs to improve and the offense needs to get more imaginative and less predictable.

If we see a young reloading defense, improvement on offense, but have other freak factors that cause 3 losses (think 2010 Capital One Bowl bullshite, or more injuries than this year), then I could accept that and hope for better in 2014. But those two things must happen - and even still, I can't see how more than 3 losses is acceptable.

Why?

I don't see how it could be possible for us to lose as many players next yr than we loss during this season due to injury/suspensions and we contended for the West to the last regular season weekend.

I watched the games this season and many experienced players will be replaced with inexperienced players. It's foolish to think there won't be some regression.

Uh we return just about everyone on offense and had tons of freshman play this year. Obviously you lose some playmakers but by no means should anyone expect rebuilding

Our entire offense is coming back and should be much better too. We have a very good coaching staff and we were stacked on defense. We have a stacked recruiting class coming in. We should be able to do big things on D next year even with the losses. If our offense is just good enough to stay on the field, we are playing in the national championship this year probably. We have a better chance at a better team next year then a worse team IMO.

ok.

but you are wrong in some respects. Players come here to play, this is their opportunity

again, the stated goal YEARLY at LSU, coming from the coaches and team, is to win championships

so even with replacements etc.....the goal at LSU for the football team is to WIN championships

so again, the TEAM expects to compete for titles

what you as a fan does is up to you. The Team however will be out to win the West, the SEC and a National Title

I am a little concerned that most of the other teams in the SEC West ended the year on a high note and to be honest look like they are on the move up. Hopefully we change the momentum before next year. We really do have a very talented team.

It would take the 2011 roster to navigate next season's schedule and be in a championship contending position. It's just not going to be close to that talented, deep, or experienced.
