I am looking to either build or buy a new trap for the lease. I dont like the design and weight of the two we have now.

I am trying to compare the cost of building one myself or just forking over about $450-500 and be done with it. the one I am looking to buy or build is 4x4x8 with a drop gate.

Also, I am open to design ideas if yall have any tips.

there was a thread on this a while back. whatever you do, don't forget that the top has to be open for bears or deer to be able to get out.
if you build it yourself, go heavier duty than what you think you need to. pissed off boars or big sows can destroy a trap if not constructed correctly.

Wow, just looked that up. The traps we have now have tops. Possible change of plans for me.

I didnt see that other thread about traps. Will try to find it. Thanks

We used to build them out of old trampoline frames

Super easy to do, close up the top with wire fencing, close the sides minus the trap door and you're good to go. We've never had one get torn up.

you must be on pretty flat/level ground?

A big arse heavy iron one that would fall into tracks at the bottom so the couldn't root out once in there. It was stripped by rope near the bait on the other side of the trap to allow more hogs in than just one if they were committed. I've seen as many as 11 in one of our traps. They work great if you anchor them properly.

We would anchor them with chain and a shitload of t-posts, when you get 5-8 hogs in them on the regular they can be pretty destructive.

This prolly isn't what your looking for but, the trapping system had almost 100% success.

I think it is cool...

Very cool video, I wonder if this would work at the mall to fix the problem with unruly teens.

Could bait the trap with iphones and canes.

good video.

There was some force put on that gate with the running hogs.
