I'll believe it when I get the text message alert from one of my sports apps, but I saw these tweets earlier today:

Straight from the #NHL negotiation table. Expect a 50 game season

@KevinPatrick77
Deal will be done by tomorrow night. Realignment will occur in the 2013-2014 season. Will be a 10 year CBA with opt out after 8.

@TGfireandice
It sounds like players have agreed to 10-year CBA with mutual out after Year 8. Were previously looking for the out after Year 7.

I really use to like the NHL, but these two lockouts or whatever have allowed me to forget it exists.

Me too and I used to follow a NHL club 60 miles up the road.

I'd be glad to help. What type of team are you looking for?

Still upset that the Winter Classic had to be cancelled. I was really looking forward to watching the Red Wings on 24/7 and the weather up here on January 1st was as about as perfect as you could want for an outdoor hockey game.

Yeah, as a Wings fan, I was disappointed as well.

I want a team that...

1. Isn't Canadian.
2. Preferably not too far north. Southern would be best, but I can follow West Coast teams.
3. Has some good Americans I can latch onto.
4. I could watch on a decent basis. Not every game, but someone NBCSN would show a few times.
5. Fun to watch. Can score goals. Offense over defense, ultimately, but a balanced team would be fine.

I have a Flyers jersey (got it at a thrift store...Mike Richards, doesn't even play there anymore), but I don't want to follow them. If I like this team enough, I might buy one of their jerseys. You know how I am about soccer jerseys...

Give me some options!

Tampa Bay Lightning might be a good one for you. Decent amount of Americans, but none that are stars. Have some great offensive players in Stamkos, St. Louis, and Lecavalier. St. Louis is a fun player to watch, but he's close to retirement. Red Wing legend Steve Yzerman is in his second or third year as GM. Tampa Bay won the Stanley Cup right before the last lockout, but had a disappointing year last year.

I'll keep looking at some other teams.

I thought about Tampa Bay.

What about Carolina, Nashville, or Columbus according to my guidelines?
