The problem with "a win is a win"

Certainly the overall goal is to win each game. However, having a putrid offense and still winning causes:
1. The Defense must play longer and tired players are more injury prone. I know we did not lose many defensive players for the season, but less hits over the course of a season does a body good.
2. The lack of a passing game costs us in the long run by losing recruits. We know about Gunner Keil, Justin Hunter and Mike Davis, but what about the 5 star 6'4" WRs and QBs that don't even consider LSU.
3. Correcting mistakes gets put to the side because "we won" and bad habits are repeated.
I am a huge LSU fan and I want our coaches and players to succeed.

why do you hate Les Miles???

if you arent happy with a win you aren't a true fan we can't have a legit critique of things that might need improving.

I just wanted to act like a miles supporter and refuse to read any points that can be made that we might need to look to improve.

This is only troublesome if the coaches have this mentality, not the fans.
Unfortunately, I sometimes fear our coaches do in fact have this mind set by their lack of change in the problematic areas.

Who said he hated Les Miles? Maybe he just doesn't care for him? And some things he says are correct.

The offense needs to improve but I disagree with all three of your points.
LSU lead in TOP in all but 3 games this year I think.
We currently have 2 stud QB recruits committed and a top 5 class. There arent that many 5 star WRs and QBs.
I doubt any coaching staff in the country ignores bad habits on game film simply because they won.

The "A win is a win" mentality seems to be pretty popular around here. Can you imagine winning comfortably for a change? Would be nice!

Just checked, it was actually 5, although A&M was pretty much even.
Idaho TOP Margin -6:14
Towson TOP Margin -9:24
Florida TOP Margin -14:48
A&M TOP Margin -0:20
Clemson TOP Margin -12:42

This allows you to play younger players and get experience.

LSU played the second most freshmen in the nation.

"a win is a win"
does not push for greatness...
we were using "a win is a win" when FL beat us and our coaches were somewhat awaken to the fact that our line needed re-working.
if you are satisfied with a constant "win is a win", you will lose some that you should not...
just one play can flip that over to "we almost won"
i.e. AL, Clemson

Yesterday the discussion on Sports Today, Hannegriff, Ott, and Ponamsky, was that LSU has not recruited well at the receiver position for the last 4 years. The Patterson stud that went to Tennessee chose them over LSU.
If you were a stud receiver, would you choose LSU where the passing route tree consists of bubble screens, slants, and the occasional sluggo (slant and go)?

Good point. I did not know that. I was thinking in terms of backup QB. Mett didn't get too many snaps last year (mostly because he was third on the depth chart) and Rivers did not get many snaps this year.

Good post Tcavor....I agree with your comments.
A win is a win is for lazy people and would only make sense if you never lost!
Do you think profitable companies stop looking for ways to increase their profits at the end of the year? No! They look for ways to become more profitable.
Les is a jackass for not making a change to the current system for the offense. So is LSU for not forcing him to do it!
