| How do you feel about players talking about wanting personal records and awards? (Posted on 1/2/13 at 7:09 pm)
I think it should be like Fight Club. First rule is to never discuss Fight Club. I think personal records and awards should be the same. Yes, these guys obviously want the personal records and awards, but the main goal is the team and the focus should be exclusively the team. Take a cue from Manning. He always sidesteps a discussion about a personal record or award while Adrian Peterson (whom I have a ton of respect for, so do not misinterpret me) talked about wanting the rushing record and the MVP trophy. I just think it is not the highest road you could take to draw attention to yourself in that way in a team sport.

i think ADs team was more upset that he didn't get the record than he was. it was a mission/goal for the vikings the latter part of this year

I just like it when athletes are honest. If it really doesn't mean much to you then fine but don't try and feed me bull shite when it does.

I would rather they remain humble and at all times try to deflect attention away from themselves and toward the team.

99% of the time, when an athlete tries to be the best player he can be, he is helping the team succeed.

No kidding. Don't get me wrong, humility is a great virtue and it is refreshing to see in football, but get real here. It's a competitive sport, not a church raffle.

There is a difference between cockiness and confidence. Newton is cocky and a POS. Manning, Brady, and Brees are confident but not cocky. You never hear any of them discuss personal accolades. I want every NFL player to show the same level of humility and character. I cannot stand showboats.

Just dont give me some bull shite. If it matters to you let me know. It wasnt as important to some as it was others, but there is always a hint of moral superiority if someone says "as long as we win" or "I dont look at stats". As if distracts the LT from blocking.

i think players should aspire to be the absolute best they can be. when a player such as AD has a legitimate chance to break a record and he is asked a question about breaking that record, i see no reason why he should side step the question. he never answered those questions in a cocky manner; he was asked questions and answered them honestly. IMO, that is the best way to go.

How is that mutually exclusive from wanting to stand out or be recognized by your peers?

I like honesty. I hate all the PC talk coaches and players usually use.

I have no clue what that set of sentences means. "Chickenheads"? First down signals?
