I'm talking about a consensus of stocks everyone thinks could make a 5% (or more) movement over the next 7-14 days? The goal would be to move in. Hit a small goal and move out for another consensus stock.

Example:

Mosaic reports earnings on Friday and we all believe a good earnings report is coming out and expect a jump from $57.50 before earnings release.
(** This is in example and I am not endorsing Mosaic.)

Start with some small $ figure like $5K.

We can do it as a project for a few months (without real cash) to see if we can consistently see a 5% goal.

Anyone?

You've peaked my interests. Exactly what stocks, industries and sectors are you referring to other than the example?

Has any research been done on target companies (IE: stress tests, solvency, peer-to-peer, standard financial performance analysis)?

Any and all sectors.

Posters can lay out why the stock they are evaluating should see an uptick in value in the near term. If 7-14 days is a tad too narrow for some people, we would make it a 14-28 day window.

Come to an overall consensus on a couple or stocks and make moves (or pretend moves) on those stocks for a small realized gain.

And after the initial research period? How would funds be set up, percentage interests and share ownership be accounted for and managed? Who would be doing the portfolio management and buy/sell transactions? Any margin trading? If margin, I'm out I'm not going to get caught with my pants down trading margin.

What about dividends? Reinvested dividends to purchase additional shares (of same or different stocks) or issue dividends based on share/contribution interests?

ETA: Just reread OP and see you're looking at more of short term day trading.

I've got three ideas.

#1. Whitewood-Young Industries...low P.E. Explosive earnings. 30% discount from book. Great cash flow. Coupla 5% holders. Strong management.

#2. Terafly...Analysts don't like it. I do. The breakup value is twice the market price. The deal finances itself. Sell off two divisions.

#3. Bluestar Airlines. A comer. 80 medium-body jets. 300 pilots, flies northeast, Canada, some Florida and Caribbean routes...great slots in major cities...There was a crash last year. They just got a favorable ruling on a lawsuit. Even the plaintiffs don't know...the decision'll clear the way for new planes and route contracts. There's only a small float out there, so you should grab it. Good for a five point pop.

Each would control their own funds/trades.

Think of it as very active investment club.

You'll have too many Indian chiefs. Better limit the conversation to a select few or build a hierarchy IMO.

Yeah. You could have 40 people tossing out 20 or so stocks.

We could limit it to 2-3 recommendations per poster so the others could evaluate them independently and give them a rating of 1 thru 5; with 5 being strong support and 1 being weak.

You can't rate your own submissions.

I like the idea a lot but we just need to establish a framework and a consistent way of following up and showing results.

Great thread

I think this has a lot of potential. Much better than the Hottest Actress bracket on the OT or the Best 80s Action TV Series Challenge bracket on the Movie/TV board.

ok... I'll throw out some names real quick

1. IOC- in the process if drilling another well in their field in Papa New guinea(sp?). well was logged and has like 2300 ft of pay. Its down near its 52 week low and is rebounding.

2. LINE - it is a MLP that throws a good dividend and is also coming off of a low. Had a rough quarter but has done me well in the past.

3. KOG- another oil and gas independent. Very active in the Bakken and is expected to double their production in the next year.

Please Rate my stock picks. I mostly dabble in the energy sector as you can tell..

It has to be more than just I like this stock, rate it.

You have to do your own due diligence on the stocks you recommend: financials, key information, industry strength, etc..

As probably the youngest one doing this, I'll sit back and let someone else take the lead and learn something and then I'll chime in.
