Educate Me - Scope Related

Looking at the Leupold VX-2 3-9x40, duplex reticle for $299.98. The cost is scope only.
The scope will go on my kid's youth model 7mm08. Shots will be between 75 and 200 yards with nearly every shot coming in the late afternoon.
Is this a good deal and are there better options?

You might want to look at the 50mm. I have one and really like it.

For the money that's about as good as it gets. I don't use Leupold, but there definitely isn't anything wrong with them. I've shot friends rifles with them and I find Leupold and Nikon are tit for tat. Check the deal on the 3-9x40 Monarch and go with the cheapest. Just don't buy a cheapo Tasco or Bushnell.
