They definitely fricked up the time travel aspects of the movie, but the rest of the story and acting is so good that I didn't really care.

While I was watching I was able to overlook a lot of that, but then in the following days a lot of it just bugged me too much

why didn't he just shoot his right hand, instead of killing himself? it would have had the same effect? He would have been stunned enough for the girl and kid to get away

Because Old Joe wasn't going to stop trying to kill the kid, and Cid's "transformation" into the Rainmaker was the result of Old Joe killing his mother in front of him.

This is what bothered me too much. To me the ending wasn't predictable b/c I thought they would have followed some logic in the time travel aspect. So I kept waiting for a different ending. After the movie I was kinda just pissed at how big the plot holes were. It was entertaining, but that is about it for me.

He became the Rainmaker without Old Joe's help. If Joe did kill his mom, he would have known who it was the first instance he came back, and not killed those other kids first.

I agree that Joe would have kept pursuing the kid, but it would have been harder for him to catch up to him

but no he did not kill old Joe's wife, the thugs who came to get old Joe killed his wife. Thugs that Joe knew would one day come. Joe was just as guilty as the rainmaker. His actions and decisions led to her death just as much as the rainmakers.

He didn't know they would kill his wife, they send people back in time to be killed because they would be caught in the future.

All he had to go on was the birth date, i don't think they knew who the Rainmaker was in the future or why he became the Rainmaker, just where and when he was born.

I thought it was the best of the year, but the only new movies I saw were Looper, Skyfall, The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises

I think I was the same thing For a guy that has posted more on this board than any other since of been on this sight, I don't go to the theatre much. I do watch A TON of Netflix though and a bazillion Pre-1970's stuff. What I'm try to say here is we're awesome. What it boils down to really.

I watched this earlier today. I didn't want to nitpick the time travel stuff too much. Every movie involving time travel is going to have issues. I enjoyed the movie.

It was cool seeing the New Orleans scenes. I work downtown so I remember seeing all those junky futuristic cars parked all over O'Keefe and Rampart.

Of course he didn't know they would kill his wife but he knew that they were coming and one would think he would've done the math and figured out the exact day that they were coming. He should've made sure that she wasn't there.

His decision to become a looper and lack of foresight led to her death as much as the rainmaker.

How could he have figured out the exact day when it hadn't happened yet,. I'll grant you he knew 30 years and could have made precautions, but I got the impression he was trying to avoid them.

While a valid point, no one including you are I would see it that rationally. That's not a plot hole, that's just human nature. Plus, isn't it the Rainmaker that starts closing all the loops. Was it a given that eventually your loop would be closed? Even so, he would not be the first person that was short sighted in youth and wanted to change it later in life.

yeah, really going thru it 5 movies is a ton of new releases for me these days. I'll probably see the Hobbit to, maybe Monday since I plan on boycotting the BCS CG

Most years, I wind up seeing more old movies at this Midnight theater on weekends.

I've been watching a ton of TV shows on there. Since March I've watched all of BSG, 4 full seasons of 24 (halfway thru season 5) the first season of Madmen and the British Office, plus some various documentaries.

You ain't never lying man. Told my buddy today that this might be the first time ever that I won't watch the NCG. Still haven't decided. I like the sec winning bowl games. Except Bama. I root against them no matter what. Until they get matched up against ND. Literally the worst possible situation ever.

He knew the day that he killed his old self. He knew his loop was closed and that he got a 30 year retirement if he didn't know the exact day he should've been able to come up with a rough estimate. And the reason they send marks back to the past to be killed is because of tracking devices so any attempt at avoidance would be an act of futility.

I'm not really pointing it out as a plot hole I'm just saying that they never fully convinced me that the rainmaker is any worse than any other crime boss. I assumed that Cid was closing all the loops because his mother was killed by a looper which comes back around to Joe.

A couple of years ago me and some friends were naming worst case championship scenarios. Worst possible match ups in all sports: Notre Dame - Alabama was far and away my #1

That's why i'm thinking a nice long movie is in order. I will definitely boycott ESPN for at least a week

rough estimate of what a week, month? I mean does 30 years mean from today (1/1/43) or could it be mid July 2043?

Sounds like he was but whether he was or not he was to Old Joe, that's all the really matters to him.

Did he know his mother was killed by a looper? They couldn't have been the only ones killing people in the past, maybe he figure it out, but for all we know, all he knew is she was killed in front if him and he was angry, alone and had this enormous power. Regardless, I think that was the point, all these actions have consequences, but in the end we all make a choice.

That's what I got out of it. Why else would he be closing all the loops if notnfor either vengeance or some naive hope to change the past?

re: just finished looper

They tried to make sure the audience didn't get all caught up in the time travel paradoxes by dismissing it between the two Joes. When they 1st sit down at the diner to talk old joe says he isn't there to answer time travel bull shite questions.

I guess that was the director trying to make sure you didn't get hung up on the wrong parts of the story.
