So you ride to the stand with a round in the chamber?

You hit a bump, the trigger assembly is a little loose from hitting a bazillion bumps over the years, the sear moves 1/64th of an inch, and KABOOM.

Still, it just shoots, its not pointed at me and as far as I'm concerned that's one of the safest ways to carry a loaded gun. No different than carrying a holstered pistol imo

All of the safest ways to carry a gun involve a completely unloaded gun.

I think all guns should be unloaded until in blind or stand and ready to shoot, heck most of the time I don't load until shooting hours.

I have many friends I won't hunt with due to their lack of concern for safety.

I load when completely settled in blind or stand and unload completely prior to coming out. Normally leave the bolt open as well. I've shot all my life and I'm apprehensive as well. My father drilled safety into all of us.

Always wore a helmet riding motorcycles from the time I was six until I got rid of the last one at forty as well. My melon is my livelihood and I have other mouths I'm responsible for.

An unloaded gun is as useful as a brick

All you people that don't load your chamber until you are in the stand, how many of you ever kill a damn deer? The noise you make will scare every deer away for a mile! Don't you know how to handle a loaded gun? That's what they make rifle straps for to free you hands to climb the damn ladder!

Disagree. All guns are handled as though they are loaded an ready to shoot. Even if they are empty. More people are shot with supposedly empty guns !

You must have a really loud gun. I have bolted my gun with several deer around my stand and not scared any off.

Mine always has 3 in the magazine. Once I get away from house or camp I load the chamber. I unload when I start to climb in stand and vice versa.

I've killed nine this year.

My daughter shot, missed, chambered another round, shot and killed a four point this morning. Her first.
