Did Obama speek too soon re: debt ceiling agreement?

he left open a vague possibility about certain details that had to be worked out, blah blah blah

and then a few minutes later, mccain is talking about how obama made these statements when the house hasn't agreed to a deal

sounds like the gun may have been jumped

if so, it's interesting to speculate as to why he did it. i can see either of these:

1. EXPECTING political capital, so when it doesn't happen the story can be spun as "obstructionist republicans"

2. USING political capital, to try to force the hands of the house

By doing what he did, he now has the ability to say the Republicans backed out of the deal.

Because no Republican has the nuts to call a press conference and straight up call the President a piece of shite liar... They are too busy giving each other handjobs behind the scenes.

They are more concerned about their jobs than the country

now that i think about it, he's playing both sides

if a deal gets done, Obama/Biden forced the sides to come to an agreement

if a deal doesn't get done, Obama can proclaim that the GOP isn't serious about "common sense solutions" or something and that they "backed out due to political ideology while ignoring the American people"

I really think they tentatively have agreed to the tax deal. He wants to take credit for that. And he wants to blame everybody else for not putting together an agreeable package for "spending cuts." Hopefully though it backfires and the repubs push the no deal button.

I think LSUt81 is right. I have been extremely dissapointed in the repubs and their propensity to give in when the going gets a little rough. We elect these people to govern by their conscience not campaign for 6 or 2 years to keep their jobs. Even more reason to have term limits to get rid of the go along to get along attitude. People need to call these elected officials on this and vote accordingly.

When have they given in? Intransigence has been their only tool.
