God that sucks.

What a lame system.
It basically double-screws good teams.

Traded up to get Mark Ingram. Meh
Traded up for Sed Ellis. Meh
Traded up for J. Sullivan.
Traded up for Ricky Williams.

Don't forget...we traded up for Morestead and that worked out. We also traded up for LSU's Al Woods and he didn't even make the f'n team!

he could go before #15. Fair chance that he wouldn't just as well though. Talkin here the players we can surely peg as gone filling draft spots before the Saints. As said, between now and the draft I imagine we will have another 3-5 on the list. Just talking how things stand right now.

Anyone have other players they can suggest as 90% sure they will be gone? Not maybes, might be's, or could be's. That's the thread of who our pick could be. This is just to define who should we eliminate from the discussion.

Yeah, but those were later in the draft. I'm really referring to 1st/2nd round.

forgot we also traded up for Jamaal Brown. He was good but there were other players in that draft I'd have preferred.

gonna put a comprehensive review of draft pick trades on my list of offseason topics

Some of them are fascinating to me. For example, you might say giving up #10 (Jerod Mayo) & #78 (Shawn Crable) to get Ellis at #7 was a shitty deal. BUT we did get a #164 from NE too. Who did that end up being? Why it was going to fukkin Disneyland Carl Nicks!

Corey Lemonier just declared for the draft. Projected 3rd round DE/LB. 6'4" 240. Definite guy to keep an eye on. Pass rush specialist.

Can definitely see the Saints trying to trade up in this draft for some reason

I admire your unbridled optimism in the face of overwhelming evidence Blues, it's the hallmark of any longtime Saints fan.

I pray this doesn't happen. Trading up never really pays off for us.

yeah, totally agree. I don't ever recall us trading down in the first and getting more picks though.

this might be the year to do it. I mean, what are the chances Goodell will give us our 2nd round pick back?

but staying put at #15 would be fine with me.

Here are the players who have gone at #15 the last 10 years:

Bruce Irvin
Mike Pouncey
Jason Pierre- Paul
Brian Cushing
Branden Albert
Lawerence Timmons
Tye Hill
Derrick Johnson
Michael Clayton
Jerome McDougle
Albert Haynesworth

Depending on the teams drafting I could see Werner falling or he could go top 3 Easily IMO

the list of #15's is good reference to sense how likely an impact player is

try #14-16 the past five years too...

Brockers, Irvin, Coples- I don't rate picks post draft until year 3
Quinn, Pouncey, Kerrigan- Not at year 3 yet but all look very good so far
Earl Thomas, JPP, Derrick Morgan- 2 studs, one bust
Malcolm Jenkins, Cushing, English- ya know MJ, Cushing solid but plenty of injuries, English looks bust
Chris Williams, Braden Albert, DRC- big bust, all pro, & solid, BA & DRC both UFA this year

Some may not be enamored with a DB but Banks or Rhodes could be the BPA at #15.

PRob prolly had the most trouble adapting to Spags zone scheme more than any other player. He was drafted to be a man cover. Greer is under contract for 3 more years but will be 31 next year. White was excellent for where he came from. Patrick might be cut next year. Mack looked pretty solid for #3 guy.

Besides better players one of the benefits of drafting higher is that the pool of possible draftees get much easier to define. At this point I have these names as 0% chance of being available at #15. Trading up might be a possibility if one would be around at #12-14. Higher than that and the price becomes exorbitant. Also one of the suckiest things is that the Bucs & Panthers pick at #13 & 14- not the most conducive trade partners.

In part this effort is to hopefully reduce the number of threads about players that have no realistic chance of landing in NOLA. The next tier is where we need to focus discussion. Seven more beyond these will go before the Saints pick. Can we agree on these as consensus no-way-possibles? Whaddya say?

Luke Joeckel OT Texas AM
Geno Smith QB West Virginia
Star Lotulelei DT Utah
Bjoern Werner DE Florida St
Jarvis Jones LB Georgia
Manti Teo LB Notre Dame
Damontre Moore DE Texas AM

Geno Smith? You would never make it as a GM you would be fired 2 minutes after you drafted him.

I haven't advocated him in any form whatsoever. If you want to take on betting that he will be selected before the Saints pick we can work out sumpin.

Again, this thread is to identify who we shouldn't waste time discussing cuz the chance of being availble is so low.

I like him. I think he goes before the Saints mid 3rd rder tho. There, he might be a can't-pass-on how fast can we get the card up pick. Perusing some big boards (not mocks) I see him at 43, 64, 40
