Bowl Season - Why are the Cap One, Outback and Gator on at the same time

Simple question; why don't they change when these games are played? They shouldn't even be the same day. The SEC and BIG are the most passionate conferences overall, yet you pit the 3 games where they play each other in the same 4 hour block once a year?

Has there been a good explanation for this ever?

no, those should all be on NYD.

they should just space them out better.

also, the ESPN should lose the rights to a few bowls so we can get more night games instead of these BS early morning games that half the country will be in bed for.

I think 1 or 2 of them should have a date change honestly. The Gator isn't a traditionally a Big/SEC game so change it

I would rather they do the Cap 1/Outback at like 11/1, then you can still start the Rose at 5

Edit: I know why they finish before the Rose, but why can't they just change the day so we get one of these games instead of a crap game throughout the first 10 days of bowl season

Probably this. They're playing all those games at the same time because ESPN wants the Rose Bowl to be the lone game in its time slot.

It's been that way for a while. All these crappy games leading up to New Yesrs, then they put the games you would want to watch on at the same time. They should do something about that.

Didn't they used to start the Outback an hour or 2 earlier than the others? It was a little more acceptable when there were only 2 BIG/SEC games but now the gator makes 3, so I can't understand how you could potentially have 6 of the top 10-15 teams all time playing in a 4 hour block.

Tradition. Those games have always been on at the same time (Cap One=Citrus, Outback=Hall of Fame).

You've got 28 games in what 12 days? Too may games, but don't hold your breath waiting for the number of games to be reduced significantly.

it's okay when you might have one team in the top 10 and two either 7-5 or 6-6 in these games...

That's a silly argument. How many games are broadcast each Saturday during the season. They still manage to offset marquee games. You're saying that over this 28 day period they cannot manage to schedule an average of 2.33 games a day without egregious overlap?

maybe some of the weaker bowls shouldn't be televised?

If they aren't televised, they won't be played.

Frick the Rose Bowl, it has single handedly held college football back decades.

that would work too... you could have put a good game in the time slot wasted by ULM and Ohio...

maybe people skipped attending that bowl bc it was on TV? no TV might help attendance
