| Hobby Lobby gives Obamacare the finger (Posted on 12/28/12 at 8:54 am)
I'm not at all religious, but I 100% support Hobby Lobby in their right not to offer the morning after pill... I think I may go shop there just to show my support. I'm sure there is a sale on some fake plants or fabric
quote:
An attorney for Hobby Lobby Stores said Thursday that the arts and crafts chain plans to defy a federal mandate requiring it to offer employees health coverage that includes access to the morning-after pill, despite risking potential fines of up to $1.3 million per day.

Good for them. I just wish people were so staunch in defending their rights that didn't revolve around religion, as well.

I loathe hobby lobby. Why? well the lines are ridiculous. I don't like they are closed on sundays. And the smell of those types of stores just creeps me out. It smells like a dead grandma to me. My wife loves those craft stores and drags me, I personally prefer michaels, cause there is an ace next door. I can boogie when it comes time to pay and go get some popcorn. I fully support hobby lobby to pay 1.3M a day. We need some additional $$.

Not sure they are losing alot. I wouldn't think it would be anywhere near the top, of places to buy "the pill"..

Very true... But I said a while back that we would see if they were really staunch in their faith or not. If they truly are objecting because it violates their religion, then there is no wiggle room. They either refuse to provide it or close their stores. Anything else would be them saying "Well were religious, but only to the point where it doesn't affect us financially"

Good for them. It comes down to this... Can the government force an individual to by the morning after pill for another individual if the person being made to purchase it objects to it on moral/religious grounds? Obviously, the answer to that question is: NO. Then, how can the government force an individual (and, in the eyes of the law, HL is an "individual" just like you or I), to purchase insurance for the other individual and require that the insurance which MUST be purchased provide the morning after pill as part of its benefits? Adding a layer to the transaction does not change its outcome, or the ultimate culpability for it by the morally objecting individual (if I hire a contract killer to kill someone, I am just as culpable as the triggerman, even though I did not do the actual deed [both morally, and in the eyes of the law]).

No it doesn't. The media will make this an issue about women's rights. People will come out of this thinking that Hobby Lobby is an evil organization that wants to set women back 50 years because that is how the media will paint it.

Good. More companies need to follow suit.

Maybe they object to anything outside of Natural Childbirth on religious grounds... Would you allow them to carve out coverage for epidurals? This isn't a matter of them paying for it... just that they are trying to select coverage that would deny paying for things. I am willing to bet that any of these companies objecting to it are doing it on political grounds, not religious. Having said that, I don't think it will affect much if it is taken out. Let the courts decide.

Sure. As long as employees were informed of the policy. Nobody is forcing anybody to work at Hobby Lobby. Why do you hate freedom?

No, it's all about religious grounds. This isn't as big of a deal with other companies, but Hobby Lobby is against the morning after pill and has chosen to offer insurance that doesn't cover it. Which they had the freedom to do. Obamacare wants to force them to offer insurance that covers it, which goes against their religious beliefs. If a woman wants morning after pills to be covered so badly, she doesn't have to sign up for Hobby Lobby's insurance, she can get her own insurance.
