Conan O'Brien wrote for the show and had a few bit parts as well.

Didn't know about Shearer, Silverman, or Stiller. The post-Farley/pre-Ferrell era was pretty ugly.

Yea Silverman left because she was never featured in anything.
Robert Downey jr. talks about his time there during his Inside the Actors' Studio interview and it's pretty interesting.

I'm comparatively young (25 years of age) and I knew that most of these actors were former cast members of SNL.

Some of those are rather obvious
Billy Crystal and Martin Short?

Maybe not to everyone. When I read the list, there were more than a few names that I said, "Oh Yeah! I forgot he/she was on SNL."
I had totally forgotten about Paul Shaffer.
Really, when the other thread came up, I was trying to remember some forgotten greats and I was going to list Billy Crystal. In his short time on the show he had quite a few great characters which were hugely popular at the time.

Why did you put Martin Short & Chris Rock on that list??? How could you not know those guys had stints on SNL??

For the young guys, I guess. Both of those actors have gone on to bigger careers than just SNL fame, and it's been a long time since they were on SNL.
Maybe they don't belong on the list, but I'm often amazed at what limited knowledge of the immediate past that many young adults seem to possess.

I knew about them all but Sarah Silverman and Damon Wayans. I had no clue those two were ever cast members.

People not only forget about him but also the fact that he was in the cast on two separate occasions (during the last season with the original cast and then back five years later after Eddie Murphy left).
Those early 80s seasons from when Lorne Michaels left through that first season where he came back (with Downey Jr., Hall, etc.) are bizarre to watch now. There's some great, great stuff hidden amongst a lot of crap (kind of like it always has been) but you never get to see it in flashbacks or retrospectives.

You forgot Garret Morris on that list and he is now on Two Broke Girls

Sid Caesar is the only host in the history of SNL to be made an "honorary cast member" in 1983. And screw the "young guys", if they don't know who Sid Caesar is they can look it up.

I think Wayans only made it a few episodes. He dropped some F bombs on air and they fired him.

I don't remember Wayans dropping an Fbomb. My impression was that he was fired because, after getting pissed about not being used enough, he just randomly used the gayest accent ever while playing a cop that had one line that wasn't supposed to be funny.

I could see making a case for a few of those because they were only on that one season in the 80s, but I'm gonna go with everybody else and say yes I knew.
