Or maybe it's because the subject of the thread is under-recognized bands.

There is a reason they are under-recognized....

because they don't play under a huge label that literally forces them to be heard?

I guess I meant the only reason a lot are under recognized is because of financial reasons. Not talent.

I would think that if their talent was good enough, they would get picked up by someone.

I'm not knocking on any of these bands btw. I respect all musicians.

Yeah because recognition shows the quality of the music. Which is why Justin Beiber and Taylor Swift are top notch quality

The one thing I love about online forums, is getting a sneak peak into the minds of the lost.

Not trying to call you old, but if you are, it would explain why you're not in the loop (or even close to the loop). I know lot's of older people that know newer bands under the mainstream radar, but age would be a reasonable excuse.

Because the right person hasn't heard them yet in a lot of cases.

It's a shame then, you're missing out on good music.

You say you've not heard of the bands in this thread, and your reasoning is if they were any good they would be more well known. That is just wrong on many levels.

For instance, My Morning Jacket has sold out Madison Square Garden on New Years Eve, put on their own festival, have played in front of 80,000 while headlining a festival, have played at the White House, are highly respected by the musicians in other successful bands. They sell out great music venues across American and Europe, they got back to back nights at Red Rocks this summer. But they would never be played on a mainstream radio station so people living in that bubble will never hear about them.

A lesser known, like a Dr. Dog sells out great little venues in cities across America and Europe. But again, they'd never be on major radio, so if you're living in the bubble you won't hear about them.

A band like the Avett Brothers were around for about 10 years selling out great venues and were very well known by people awake to good music, they've been on big label, but they have not been on major radio much.. therefore people don't know about them. Not until recently do more people know about them, doing bs like Gap commercials makes that happen. A lot of bands with character refuse to do bull like that because to many fans it compromises the art.

Yet, there are countless talentless musicians that are just a pretty face singing simple lyrics playing the same generic sound to their genre that are incredibly famous.
