Open for both laptops and desktops. I have roughly $700 to spend on a build, but I know nothing about building computers. I would like one optimized for high-def gaming that will last me a while. Is this possible or am I reaching a little far? If you could find a build within my price range, I'd give you cookies/brownies/blow/whatever you are into these days. TIA!

Well here's the deal, I'm probably gonna end up printing out whatever build is posted here because my parents want to be the ones that get it for me for Christmas. I think they said they were going to Best Buy first, but I'm not sure if they'll order parts/build the computer for you. I'm not comfortable with them handling the whole purchasing process, but they really want to do it so my hands are kind of tied. I just some guidelines for them.

Best Buy just sells those iBuyPower gaming PCs. I wouldn't go that route. Order the parts and build it yourself. It's not hard.

Is it just plugging and screwing? I just don't want to screw up a brand new computer because I didn't put it together right.

Basically plugging, no real screwing other than motherboard to the case, but the holes should line up, Very hard to mess up.

Are you looking to buy prebuilt or build it yourself?

It's pretty easy unless you are a window licker.

Just google search for the Newegg video about building a PC and follow their guide.

Sounds like the video card in that might be a little weak. I'd rather have an expensive card than 1 TB of memory. I only have about 250 Gigs taken up on my laptop right now and I have all of my games on it.
