Did I say that? No, I just said some other programs have had SOME success in having players drafted in the Top 5 rounds come to school or stay in school.

So kevin gausman, a 1st rd talent out of HS, drops to 6th rd because of commitment to LSU and sign ability issues, then it's not the same as a guy with equal talent in the 1st rd going to Florida? C'mon man

Once again, are you insinuating Florida doesnt have guys drop in the draft either?

I'm not speaking from speculating basis like you are, I'm speaking from facts.

We have not had a Top 5 round drafted guy come here under Mainieri. Other programs have had that happen. Not saying it's some terrible apocalypse, just wondering how those schools can lure some kids away from MLB at times and we cant.

You aren't speaking on facts though.

If LSU can get 5 top level guys just like FL, who cares what rounds they are in?

Unless you have the facts and follow each team religiously, you don't know that. You are speculating as much as I am.

And again, the coaches at Florida do not talk these kids out of MLB. The offered money dictates that. Which seemingly makes it all coincidental

That's meaningless.

If you don't think Mainieri is bringing in enough talent, then make that claim. Baseball prospects can't be judged by the round they are drafted in the same way football players can. Signability plays too much of a factor.

That's good to know, but means nothing. If kid gets drafted in first few rounds, I don't see it happening.

He's a good friend of mine as well. I coached Justin his first few years of playing baseball on the rec level.
He WILL attend LSU; unless drafted 1st round. Then him and his family will consider thier options. It'll be hard for him to pass up big time 1st round money IMO.

It's hard for any high schooler to pass up money like that. I'm diehard LSU baseball fan, but if I was drafted in 1st round, I probably wouldn't have thought twice. Hard to turn down being an instant millionaire at the age of 18.

What do you mean UNLESS he is drafted 1st round? Of course he will be drafted 1st round. And he will take the money..and don't blame him

Right, just as this whole thread has turned into; there are some doubts as to whether he will actually get drafted 1st round because of signability. Also, it depends on what the MLB teams offer as far as contract goes before he decides which way he goes; LSU or MLB. It really is up in the air for this kid.
Either way, it is a win/win situation for this kid and I'm really happy for him. He's worked hard for it.

Based on that article it sounds like we will never see him here at LSU.

We are definitely his fall back plan if for whatever reason he gets screwed over money wise...whcih I dont see how that happens if he's drafted 1st or sandwich round. When you go to using a wood bat in high school, you know what you're thinking about.

By all means though I hope he doesnt get the $ he wants and comes here because having him and Bregman on the same team would just be absolutely unfair.

Man, imagine if we got some of these top round guys to come to LSU. Joey Gallo, Justin Williams, Zach Lee, etc...

How does he compare to Bregman as far as power and hitting?

The only way he is going to LSU is if he gets injured.

More power, not as good of a hitter....from what I've read.

That's correct. He's more of the typical power hitter, whereas i think Bregman is more of a contact hitter than Justin is.
