Today, AMC announces the season 4 pick-up of The Walking Dead.

AMC also jointly announces with Glen Mazzara today that for future seasons, the two parties have mutually decided to part ways. Glen guided the series creatively for seasons 2 and 3. AMC is grateful for his hard work. We are both proud of our shared success.

Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways. This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer.

@glenmazzara I've had an amazing experience as showrunner for S3 @WalkingDead_AMC but it's time to move on. Thank you to all the fans for their support.

Damn, not sure if that's a good thing (Mazzara leaving). Guess we'll have to see.

ETA: I do know a few people might be happy to hear this though.

Yeah, I think it dragged a little too much, especially the first half of season 2, but now I think it may have actually served a purpose. We did get to feel these characters a lot more, that are very central to the story now. It kind of had to be done that way I guess, to allow Hershel and Maggie etc. to develop more. Hard for me to explain, but we got to totally see how proud and independent he was and now how much he's bought into Rick. It would have been kind of hard to rush that whole aspect.

season 2 was slow... it wasnt awful though. it was important for character development.

we now know why the farm/prison gang is more "seasoned" than the townies.

we have a connection to these people. We realize how much of a struggle little bro is gonna have when he ultimately has to decide between big bro or the gang.

it was a necessary season that did a great job of connecting us to the characters.
