A potential USMNT Starting XI?

GAM, Gatt, Gomez, Jones, Edu, Mix, Williams, Boyd, Kljestan, Bocanegra, Guzan, Hamid on the bench.

Obviously, if Cakes retires then you move Chandler or Gatt to the wing.

Also, Williams and/or Jones could be the defensive mid but Chandler has got seen some time on the pitch at midfield with Nuremberg. He may be our right back of the future, but you can't justify taking Cherundolo off yet.

I don't see that happening.

Williams or jones WILL be on the pitch.

Swap out Chandler for Williams and you are set

although Klinsmann will likely trot out 3 middies (Bradley, Jones, and Williams) against Honduras in February

ETA: Doubt Donovan is in the picture until summer at least...he hasnt been involved with the National team for quite some time now....also I dont think Klinsmann will play one CDM in front of cameron and goodson, he'll play two to protect them

Why the hell is Chandler a defensive midfielder? Either put him at RB or RW.

I don't like Zusi out wide on the left. We need someone with speed who can stretch the field. I love his game, but just not there. I really, REALLY want to see Gatt in the qualifiers. If Jurgen makes it happen, I'll shite my pants. Also, it is entirely too early to say this, but I'll say it anyway:

WHAT ABOUT STU BEAR?

It is just way too early on Holden. He just started training again which is good though. I seem to recall from an article that you might not see him in a game for some weeks to come though

Move Chandler to RB, and put either Williams, Jones, or Klejstan in the CDM position.

I don't really care which.

Love me the crossing ability of Spector out of the back.

Well there are atleast 10 midfielders who would play in front of the defense before Chandler. To my knowledge he's never even played that position. He can play RB, RW, or LB.

I'm pretty sure he's seen some action there for Nuremberg.

Where are you watching him play CDM? I've seen a few games for nurnberg this year and he has been a RB, they typically use one CDM and that's the only dude on the team who's played more minutes than Timmy. All of their match lineups on bundesliga.com have him at RB and while it is possible he slotted in mid game, do we really think he's an international level CDM?

I don't know, do we really think Beckerman is an international level CDM???

As of now, Jermaine Jones, skill-wise, is our best CDM but he doesn't nearly play as well for the USMNT as he does for Schalke.

No, but I also didn't put him in my starting 11.

Jones is good, but I have no reason to believe Danny Williams isn't just as capable. Sure, the first half against Russia was a horrid shift, but he really did improve his play as the match went on. Jones brings passion and presence, but how much is too much?

re: A potential USMNT Starting XI?

Timmy Chandler doesn't have the skillset to make him a middle of the field player. That doesn't mean he's not good. I wouldn't play Arjen Robben at center mid either. Chandler's game is predicated around being athletic, aggressive, and being a good crosser. He hasn't shown that he can control tempo, consistently pick out a pass, or even shown that his positioning is good enough to play in the center of the field.

In the international game, where you don't get as much practice time, you have to be comfortable in your position. It wouldn't be smart to assume Chandler could make that change.
