Bushrod - free agent, can Saints afford him with having to get deal done with Jimmy Graham
Chase Daniel - does he want a better chance to compete for starting gig somewhere else
Ellis - free agent, can Saints afford
Greer - likely done
Harper - time to upgrade S
Henderson - his recent production and targets make him expandable
Herring
Ivory - writing on the wall
Patrick Robinson - please end this experiment at corner and 1st round bust
Shanle
Will Smith - if resigned it will be at a far less cap hit
David Thomas
Pierre Thomas - does his production match his contact
Vilma - Saints might be only option if he wants to continue career at far less money
Charles Brown

Add Brees to that list, he's past his prime. We will be lucky to get some junior mints and a pack a juicy fruit for the poor guy.

Greer is likely done? What Jabari Greer are you watching? Greer is having a pretty good season despite the lack of a pass rush.

So, you want to take 4 starters, who are under contract for at least two more seasons (2014 they can dump Robinson (FA) and Smith (Voidable year)) and just cut them for nothing.

Pierre Thomas - does his production match his contact

Right.

Henderson - his recent production and targets make him expandable

Maybe. He is a FA. But he'll resign for cheap. Dude is a solid player and won't go away easily.

Some of that is reasonable. But Greer is fine in my opinion.

I predict a bunch of pissed off fans next August when we have practically the same defensive line up.

I would love to have a playmaking WR. I guess everyone would though right?

Isn't Smith's cap hit around $15 mil for next year? We might save money by cutting him now, but I'm not sure how the penalty works.

I don't really see much of a problem with our receiving core. And with Morgan coming along and maybe Toon, I think we are good there.

Our receivers don't get alot of coverage because Drew spreads the ball around alot. But we have some great receivers.

I think he's gone.

quote:

Chase Daniel - does he want a better chance to compete for starting gig somewhere else

New York Jets?

quote:

Ellis - free agent, can Saints afford

Unless he takes a HUGE pay cut, poof, gone.

quote:

Greer - likely done

This is a down year for him, but he restructured before the year began. Doesn't mean he won't be cut, but I could see him coming back for another year.

quote:

Harper - time to upgrade S

Harper is fine. We could restructure though.

quote:

Henderson - his recent production and targets make him expandable

I've learned not to bet against him. I've done it for 2 years straight.

quote:

Herring

Garbage.

quote:

Ivory - writing on the wall

He'll probably wanna go somewhere else.

quote:

Patrick Robinson - please end this experiment at corner and 1st round bust

BS. He ain't going nowhere. He's covering the opposing teams best WR.

quote:

Shanle

Gone.

quote:

Will Smith - if resigned it will be at a far less cap hit

I agree.

quote:

David Thomas

I'm indifferent.

quote:

Pierre Thomas - does his production match his contact

WAT?

quote:

Vilma - Saints might be only option if he wants to continue career at far less money

I'd like him around for another year.

quote:

Charles Brown

I've like what I've seen this year from him. He just can't seem to stay healthy.

Better question: Does the coaching staff feel like Charles Brown is ready to step into a starters roll. Also, I wouldn't mind taking a run at Jake Long or drafting Matthews.

quote:

Chase Daniel - does he want a better chance to compete for starting gig somewhere else

quote:

Ellis - free agent, can Saints afford

Who wants to pay that worthless DT anything over the league minimum on a one year show me deal? We have Hicks, Bunckley and Robinson who are all better than Ellis.

quote:

Greer - likely done

WTF?! He's the best CB on our team and one of the better CBs in the NFL.

quote:

Harper - time to upgrade S

It all comes down to salary. Harper is an above average SS. I personally would like to sign W. Moore in FA, but I suspect Harper takes a pay cut and remains a Saint for life.

quote:

Henderson - his recent production and targets make him expandable

This comes up every year. He is a reliable receiver and isn't a huge cap hit. Morgan may make him more obsolite in a year or two, but I think he's on the roster next year.

quote:

Herring

Ehhhh, depends on FA and the draft IMO.

quote:

Ivory - writing on the wall

What writing on the wall. PT and Ingram are our go to guys. Sproles is the change of pace guy and Ivory has talent, but is injury proned and used sparingly. I'm sure he'd like to go somewhere else, but I think he's still under contract.

quote:

Patrick Robinson - please end this experiment at corner and 1st round bust

Do you even watch our secondary. He's got plenty of talent and plays pretty well. I'll admit that I'm frustrating at times by his lack of ball awareness, but to call him a bust is stupid.

quote:

Shanle

Hopefully he is gone next year.

quote:

Will Smith - if resigned it will be at a far less cap hit

I think everyone knows an upgrade is needed. The question becomes, is it in FA and Smith can walk, or do they draft a DE and keep Smith as insurance/back up?

quote:

Pierre Thomas - does his production match his contact

I don't think his cap hit is that big. Plus, he's our starting RB and kills it on the screen plays (we will run more next year) Not going anywhere.

quote:

Vilma - Saints might be only option if he wants to continue career at far less money

I think he restructures and becomes a role player. Again, it depends on the draft and FA IMO.

Uhhhhhh, ok.

quote:

Bushrod - free agent, can Saints afford him with having to get deal done with Jimmy Graham

Will likely not have to spend too much to keep him. His production has been good, but nothing like what we saw from a Nicks or Evans. Continuity from an O-line is important.

quote:

Chase Daniel - does he want a better chance to compete for starting gig somewhere else

No clue why this is on here. He is cheap, knows the system. If Chase wanted to get a starting gig somewhere else, and had the opportunity because a team is asking for it, this organization would allow it.

quote:

Ellis - free agent, can Saints afford

Gone, most obvious one.

quote:

Greer - likely done

Really, link?

quote:

Harper - time to upgrade S

Ok, so tell me who this team will get in free agency? We can draft a safety, sure, but he hasn't been the problem on defense.

quote:

Henderson - his recent production and targets make him expandable

Sure, I can buy this. But, also very cheap.

quote:

Herring

ok

quote:

Ivory - writing on the wall

Could see him gone, but hopefully we can get some value for him.

quote:

Patrick Robinson - please end this experiment at corner and 1st round bust

no

quote:

Will Smith - if resigned it will be at a far less cap hit

Restructured deal could happen, but wouldn't be surprised to see him go.

quote:

David Thomas

Valuable guy, and cheap. Also can be used as a fullback.

quote:

Pierre Thomas - does his production match his contact

He is staying. Come on, man.

quote:

Vilma - Saints might be only option if he wants to continue career at far less money

Agree with this, and think he'd restructure a deal knowing this.

quote:

Charles Brown

Depends on them drafting an offensive linemen, or picking one up in FA. He has been a disappointing experiment though, to say the least. We all figured he'd be ready by now.
