Why are sweet potatoes illegal to throw out for deer?

I dont bait since I hunt public land and cant afford fines and loss of hunting privilages I was told by a friend its illegal to hunt over swt pot's but just dont understand why.

I think, buy do not know, that it is because of possible parasite spread issues.

That's what I was told, but idk how true it is. I just play it safe and don't use them.

because of a mite that lives on some sweet potatoes..... not in LA... that's why...

Deadly fungus when they rot on the ground. I few pieces of rebar 12" off the ground, cut in half, keep em safe if you just want to treat them to a goodie.

The bad sweet taters on the ground give them a pulmonary diorder that causes the lungs to fill up with liquid, and they just fall over at some point.

Pretty bad way for a whitetail to die.

ETA... Moving potatoes from weevil infested areas to non weevil areas is a no no.
