How long before the league outlaws all contact?

Safety is their primary concern, I am told.

Most injuries result from either direct contact, or attempting to make contact.

Why are they not looking into this rule change? Are they serious about safety, or not?

I could see them going back to more padding and other means to slow the players down. Also severely penalize any shots to the head (like immediate ejections and suspensions) and it will ruin the game.

This still does not generate as much safety as eliminating contact.

Blocking or hitting below the knees is next on the can't do list.

So the league will load up with Bettis-type RB's.

Passing game becomes an afterthought.

it'll eventually be like deadliest warrior. they will collect data from a computer simulation playing the game 1000 times, based on player performance in practices.

No, if anything the league will turn into a more pass happy league. As it is now you can't touch WRs or the QB. Ithink you will see teams putting up outrageous passing yards if the league tries to curb contact anymore than they are now.

What about ACL injuries where they are just running? Maybe just outlaw running. Everyone can just walk as fast as they can after each other.

Bill Polian was on Mike and Mike this morning and he basically said there was no reason to do away with kickoffs because if you changed the rule to move the touchback from the 20 to the 25 you'd eliminate a good many returns. I think that is the kind of neutering we'll see from here on out. There's not much more they can do with outlawing contact, they'll just change the rules to shift the style of play.
