| Talk to me about bows (Posted on 12/11/12 at 9:26 pm)
I've shot a bow maybe twice in my life. Don't even know where to start. What are the popular brands? I am usually a pretty big fan of 'going big or going home', so I like to spend good money up front on nicer things rather than recycling through shite and living regretfully. What am I going to do with it? Meh. Practice with it. Have it available in case I want to use it in the future. Take down zombies or whatever else I want to do silently. It'll be a toy like everything else that I have.

I have a Bear and I love it, lots of bang for buck. I have the Encounter, you'll probably want something nicer than that judging by your OP. There are gonna be a ton of suggestions in this thread, but the most important thing is to go and shoot as many as you can and decide which one YOU like best. It's kinda like picking a putter, everybody has their own preferences. And welcome to an addictive and potentially expensive hobby

I've heard. The softball players with bows in their hair are straight. That's all I know about bows.

Dss has a diamond. Had it for years. Come shoot my matthews if you want to talk about spending bucks. Also depends on how you trick it out That being said. Bow hunters are like golfers. Often times need the latest and greatest. You can find great deals on used bows

Yeah, this dude on LAsportsman is selling his a Diamond BowTech for $350. Hard case, dozen new arrows, sling, and pendulum sight (don't even know WTF this is). Seems legit...hoping to find a 'brand' and sit/wait on a good deal to come around.

Not saying it doesn't perform, and not saying that I care all that much about looks...but this bow looks like dick.

The diamonds are I guess "mid range" but they make some pretty good bows. Almost nothing out there is bad these days. I'm not sure what the top end is going for these days but I'd say a grand will get you something crazy good. I couldn't see myself spending more than 600-700 even if the price was no object. Remember arrows and rigging and and sight and all that crap is gonna cost you a good bit on top of the bow cost.

Its stripped down too though. Once you put all the shite on their itll look better Pendulum sight swivels up and down based on the distance of the target. Supposedly adjust for you so you dont need multiple pins for different distances Atleast i think so

Problem with this is the variation model to model. You'd really have to pick out which exact model bow you want and wait to find a deal on one.

Thats why you spend 4-500 dollars on a crossbow and it comes with a few arrows and a scope.

Yea, I don't like them. I shoot a single pin slider. It's what I'd recommend if you aren't hunting with it too.

Not sure how I feel about crossbow. This ain't The Walking Dead and I feel like it's more rewarding/difficult/natural to be able to shoot a bow.
