Come join us over on the F&D board. It can be easy as boiling water and expensive as you want. You can start up for $70-$100 and go from there if you like it.

Hit up Northern Brewer, Midwest Supplies, MoreBeer, or Austin Homebrew. All four are the major retailers and will have beginner kits with everything you need.

Appreciate the link. Can it be brewed outside?

Yeah, of course. I brew mine on a propane burner outside. Can just as easily be brewed inside. I personally love the smell. I brewed inside for years as I lived in a small apartment.

Nice, yeah I don't have a lot of room indoors.

What's the cheapest/best beginners kit I can buy? Don't want to sink a ton of money into it in case I lose interest

10% off with promocode "midwestholiday"

You'll also need an ingredients kit. I'd start with a simple ale.

There's also these. 1 gallon kits.

How solid is this? Or not worth the extra $50?

Also, random question: how long does the beer keep for after brewing?

You can gt the same kit here cheaper. It's the one I have, it's all you need to brew good beer.

The other one is 10% off.

How much beer does it brew and how long can the kit last?

Most recipes make 5 gallons. Once you bottle it, it will last a long time, 6-8 months at least. Mine never lasts that long because I drink it or share it with friends.

Also, the one I listed has free shipping.

It brews 5 gallons (50 or so 12 oz beers). Shelf-life depends on beer style, but honestly, you'll end up drinking them all well before you even begin to have to worry about flavor changes. Even more honesty, you will drink your first few batches before they are really ready to be consumed.

Yeah they're both around the same price.

Here's a cheaper kit I found with pretty solid reviews: LINK

Is it worth it to spend the extra $20 on the other kit?

Friends don't let friends buy Mr. Beer. A lot of people have started out with them, but they result in less than stellar beer.
