| Greta's interview with Michigan Senator over Union bill (Posted on 12/8/12 at 5:31 am)
Michigan Senator cannot answer Greta truthfully This interview shows just how badly the Democrats are in bed with the Unions. It's infuriating to me that we have to "Debate" the issue of right to choose as a worker. As an American, I should be able to choose to be in the Union or I can choose not to be in the Union. Right? Why do have to debate or make some special law over something so obvious to a 5 year old? Yet, liberals are all about "pro choice" when it comes to an unborn child. I just can't understand liberals, they aren't consistent in terms of logic... They make no sense and continue to push back "We're more open minded, let's debate the issue, we should listen to all sides" I'd like to hear what you all think of this

Do you feel that if your employer has a union contract and you are receiving the negotiated benefit package, plus the union has to represent you in grievances, you shouldn't have to pay core dues? If you don't, fair enough. But, that is key question.

That is assuming a lot - the union doesn't have to represent a non union worker in grievances and the free market will take care of benefits and wages. A lot of union guys are worse off now because of the union - they have bankrupted companies that can no longer pay the benefits because of competition with lower costs - that's the world we live in. It's also a world where you can find another job on the Internet / move to an area with jobs. Unions are past their usefulness

The first statement is incorrect. The union would have to represent nonmembers in the bargaining unit or else face an unfair labor practice charge. This is the point. You don't want a union? Don't vote for it. But if you lose the vote, I feel you should have to pay in, and you can always try to decertify when the contract term ends. Construction is a bit different because your employer could have a "pre-hire" agreement without a vote, but even there, the membership can decertify or confirm their union status with a vote at any time.

No. Because the 'core dues' are not used strictly to negotiate contracts. They are donated to Dem candidates.
