Gris Gris, her's another option. These are two wine stores here in Los Angeles that I trust and who ship around the country. You can tell them what you have in mind, tell them your budget and ask them for suggestions from their current inventory. I've bought wines ffrom both place MANY times and have never had a problem.

One is K&L Wines in Hollywood. The other is napacabs.com in Chino, a suberb of L.A. They both have a great selection and very good prices.

I believe he mentions he's a California wine enthusiast. I am as well. I've had some great French and some really nice Italians especially Borollos but I'm shooting in the dark because I don't know the regions. I have to be lead when drinking these where California I have a bit more confidence in getting around. It's a great list of what he has tried.

As for ordering, of the few I listed, Calandros carries those of the Mollydookers and Burgess and the Orrin Swifts. That is Calandros Perkins Road. Government Street is more European. Whole Foods carries a few as well. I order from Grapevine Wines in Kirkwood, MO and I order direct from the wineries. I can also have any not shipping to LA shipped to a Houston office and a fellow enthusiast scours Specs over there as well.

And Burgess, Hendry and Hunnicutt as well as Swanson are all other favorites. Some Burgess and Swansons can be found at Whole Foods and Martins.

Neal Family is another good one.

Also check out L.A. 's stores. They seem to have good lists. We buy a lot when we get free shipping or we get with friends and buy five to ten cases which normally leads to free shipping.

And Gris Gris if you find something you like let me know and I'll order It or I'll buy a case or split a case with you. It's a good way to buy.

I try to order what I cannot find here in BR.

quote:

Hard to believe you put a list together in this price range and didn't come up with a single wine form France, Italy, or Germany. Or any othe Old World region for that matter.
As I said earlier, I easily tasted over 500 wines this past year. Among them were wines from France, Italy, Germany (including a pinot noir from Germany!), and Spain. Some of the wines were good, some were of poor quality and were over-priced. My list is the 12 best wines that I personally tasted during the year. As it happens, all of the wines are New World wines. It is what it is.
