| One thing the younger generation doesn't get enough credit for (Posted on 12/5/12 at 10:53 am)
And I suppose I'm talking about generation Y and younger Old people love to bitch about young people being lazy or bitch about young people being immoral and ruining everything blah blah But there seems to be a reduction in violence for whatever reason which seems to be one of the bigger moral achievements that I can possibly think of.

Yeah, it's definitely not demographics. Kids are just tremendously non-violent these days. They grew up with The Teletubbies. What do you expect...

You know, if you weren't lazy, like the previous poster said, you could post the actual violent crime stats and not have to guess by your feelings.

And then note historical demographics/birthrates and then note incarceration rate and then....on and on... Or you could just say "kids are just swell these days" like you did. I prefer your approach.

sure but violence is trending down since the 80s. Gun violence, and violent crimes. I have read that it was b.c lead paint was banned. And lead paint makes you crazy and violent. I have also heard it was b.c of abortion being legal, so mothers who don't want kids don't have them.

I'm certain the declining violent crime stats have been posted on this board numerous times...do you seriously doubt the veracity of the fact of declining violent crime? If so, you should refrain from watching the 24 hr news cycle.

Big part of it, IMO.

Violent crime has been going down for years. High abortion rates of certain demographics has to be a factor.

I think the increase in concealed carry licences in most states is a large contributing factor of this...

I think another aspect to this is the fact that kids are so preoccupied now. They always have something in front of them, a phone, tablet, computer, video games. You have to actually interact with other people to be violent. This generation is completely distracted with "entertainment" and commercials. I think this is very bad for our country. We are now sedate and complacent. We are much easier to control now (see the last presidential election). A populace needs some fight in them. The human race will never be at peace, we're not made that way. We can stay slightly violent and independent, or become complacent and controlled.

Is there? And if so, doesn't that reflect on their upbringing?

I don't agree with this. If everyone is content then who would initiate force?
