G.I. Joe: Retaliation Question

This movie looks truer to the G.I. Joe I remember (the first one was awful). I wished it would be more of a reboot than a sequel, but perhaps they can somehow make us forget about some of the very questionable story lines from the first one.
I do have a question though: Wasn't Storm Shadow cut in half in the first one??

Pretty sure they reshot a lot of this movie so Tatum wouldn't be killed off since he is a huge star now.

Not surprising since it was reported when the movie got pushed back.
From what I remember, the trailer made it look like it could be really good. The first one was arse. I'm sure JGL regrets that one outside the paycheck.
