If the Pelicans were in, say, Jacksonville, and were looking to relocate to a NBA-less New Orleans, how many people who are upset about Pelicans would want that franchise as-is?

How many people wanted the hornets name changed when they first came? I was too young to pay attention to that stuff at that time. But I imagine plenty of people wanted something other than hornets

Apples and hand grenades. Basically, you just gave two options:
1. No team
2. A team named Pelicans
Of course people will deal with it. However, if you are going to take the step of renaming, why not something you like. In my opinion, Pelicans is lame. I'm sorry. It's just clumsy, the animal AND the word. Keep saying it. Call a game in your head if you need to. It is just awkward all around.

I think someone did a fleur du lis with a pelican at some point. Something tells me it will be incorporated into whatever the logo is.

I know the situation I laid out wasn't real. It's something to think about that might help someone see the name from a different angle. Maybe that makes them like it or at least enjoy the team.

For the record, Krewe was my choice. But Pelicans is fine.

The market will ask people to vote with their dollars, time, etc.
This will be a better judge than an overnight reaction to partial information.
If it is truly a disaster, they will have to change it. If it is anticipated to be so, then perhaps the NBA would not allow it.
