Going by the quote here...

quote:

Wisconsin's relatively modest facilities might also have been an issue for Bielema – a problem he will not encounter at Arkansas.

...why doesn't a school like Wisconsin, which is now going to their third consecutive Rose Bowl, have better facilities? IIRC Big Ten schools take in more money than their SEC counterparts.

That's one of 14 teams. How do the rest compare?

Big Ten schools also fund more varsity sports than their SEC counterparts. For instance, Ohio State has 36 varsity sports. Alabama has 17.

Oh, and Ohio State's football facilities are ridiculous.

Man i hate the CC board. So many rumors its basically pointless to check it for any info so i end up way behind on any of the actual things that happen.

I mean Arkansas has hired like 5 head coaches this week according to that board

You tell me, I'm the one asking.

FWIW, I posted a thread recently where I ranked Arkansas' facilities as second best overall behind Tennessee's.

Where would Wisconsin's facilities rank in the B1G?

Good question. Ohio State's are off the hook of course. I've seen Nebraska's and they're very nice. IN just did a bunch of work and they're nice too. That said, I have no idea how they compare to the SEC.

They get more money from their TV contract, but outside Ohio St, Michigan, and Penn St (at least pre scandal), how many have the alumni/booster support financially that SEC schools have?

Most Big Ten schools have pretty nice facilities, especially OSU, Michigan, Nebraska and Penn State.

Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan State have at least moderate facilities.

The rest are fairly unimpressive though.

Here's the thread I had ranking the SEC teams by facilities. Please note the list includes projects in the works but not yet completed. I had to keep reminding posters about that.

Rank the SEC by overall facilities!

There are some pretty shitty facilities at SEC schools as well. It's all relative.

Yep, Mizzou's aren't all that impressive at the moment, though the school is starting phase one of a $300 million upgrade next year.

It's your first year in the SEC, no one expected you to be top notch. You were fairly well-off as far as your peers in the Big 12. This is a whole new level of competition.

I am not an expert, and I know they're important to kids, but WTF. Facilities?? I mean if you have a weight room, film rooms, team rooms, and an ok practice facility you should be fine.

I don't think you need a smoothie bar like Oregon has

Yes I know it sells recruits, but I guess I don't think that should be a killing point for programs. It didn't hurt Miami in the 90s/early 00s and it hasn't hurt USC much when they had crappy ones til recently

True, our only really top-notch facilities at the moment are basketball and swimming... baseball, tennis, golf, and most importantly football are all about to get big upgrades though.

There is also a plan to expand the south end zone after completion of the listed projects for Faurot, here is the rendering:

It's relevant in this case, because one of your league's best coaches accepted a job in the SEC based partially on access to better facilities. If Yahoo can be believed.

If you want an extreme example of how facilities affect a football team's fortunes, look no further than the Miami Hurricanes, who probably have some of the worst facilities of any major team.

Maybe it's time for them to build their own stadium, 15k capacity should do.

Yeah that's why Tulane wants to build a 25,000 seat on-campus stadium, instead of playing their home games in the Superdome:
